The Fast and the Furious (2001): the 10 best quotes

It has been almost 25 years since the Fast and Furious the franchise began, and although the series grew to incredible heights in the following years, Fast and Furious the quotes offer a reminder of the fun and charm of the film that started it all. 2001 Fast and Furious gave the franchise a more toned-down start, while also introducing some of the franchise’s most beloved characters, like Dom, Brian, and Letty.

Aside from the colorful cars and exciting racing sequences, another thing that makes Rob Cohen’s project such a memorable installment is the dialogue. There are a lot of tough, intimidating lines thrown around by this group of likeable criminals. Fans will also be able to hear quotes that establish key themes that are still a part of the franchise decades later, as well as lines that offer a glimpse into Dom’s perspective on the world.

“Ask any driver. Any real driver. It doesn’t matter if you win by an inch or a kilometer. Winning is winning.”

Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel)

The over-the-top action sequences Fast and Furious The films are a lot of fun, but it’s a shame they strayed so far from the franchise’s street racing origins. It’s an exciting world to be introduced to and Brian serves as the audience’s surrogate character as he enters this community and learns its rules.

During his first race with Dom, Brian suggests that he came close to winning, but Dom teaches him this lesson. It’s likely that Dom has never had his victories questioned, but his vision of a race is very simple and clear – one driver crosses the finish line first and nothing else matters. He speaks to the beautiful simplicity of the sport while also suggesting that it’s part of the appeal Dom sees in it. He likes things to be uncomplicated and the idea that a win is a win means there is no other argument to make.

14

“You almost had me? You never had me – you never had your car.”

Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel)

Dom pointing at Brian in Fast and Furious

Although Brian loses his first race against Dom and wrecks his car, it is clear that he is immediately hooked on racing. He even considers the race a small victory, as he happily boasts that he has always beaten Dom. However, Dom proves he is a much more experienced driver by suggesting that Brian was never in control of his car.

This first race establishes a recurring dynamic between Dom and Brian throughout the franchise and the question of which character is the better driver. This helps establish the brotherly bond these two have, as Brian is like the younger brother chasing the older one and trying to prove he’s faster. This moment also helps establish the friendship between Brian and Dom, as Dom is mostly amused by Brian’s statement.

13

“I owe you a ten second car.”

Brian O’Conner (Paul Walker)

Dom and Brian appear in Fast and Furious

As part of the bet for the first race, Brian promises Dom a ten-second car if he loses. Although he loses, Brian’s car is hardly in good working order when he hands it over to Dom. This helps to further strengthen their relationship and the two men begin working together to turn the car into something Brian promised him. It’s a subtle moment where Brian fulfills a promise to Dom and hints at his growing loyalty.

In fact, at the end of the film, Brian is put in the position of either arresting Dom or letting him go. He chooses the last, handing over the keys to his own car, explaining that this is what he owes Dom. It’s the moment that solidifies the brotherhood between the two iconic characters. Brian is willing to give up his career and possibly get into trouble because he feels he owes his friend.

12

“You can have any beer you want… as long as it’s a Corona.”

Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel)

Vin Diesel as Dom Toretto and Michelle Rodriguez as Letty hugging in Fast and Furious 2001

After Brian helps Dom escape from prison, he is formally introduced to the crew as Dom takes him to a house party they are throwing. As they enter the party, Dom offers him a beer, but insists it has to be Corona. The moment is an obvious part of the film’s product placement, which can often be off-putting for audiences. However, Fast and Furious gets away with it because of how ingrained this is in the franchise.

Dom’s love for Corona and intolerance of anything else is a fun, recurring joke in the films. When Mr. Nobody offers Dom some of his special craft beer in Furious 7Dom insists he will stay with Corona. While it’s a silly detail to have, it can also be seen as a comment on the importance of loyalty to Dom, even if it’s a brand of beer.

11

“On the green, I’m going for it.”

Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel)

Dom looks intense in Fast and Furious

The moment Dom realizes that Brian is a police officer destroys the friendship they had been building. However, even though Dom is a dangerous man to his enemies, he still cannot see Brian as such. After they team up to take down Johnny Tran, Dom decides that the two men will resolve the situation the same way they formed their bond – in a race.

With each man in his own car, Dom sits at a traffic light with Brian next to him and tells him that when the light turns green he is going, and Brian can just try to catch up. While Dom could have simply fled immediately, it seems like he knows there’s a possibility he could go to prison and decide to come out doing what he loves. On the other hand, it says a lot that Brian is willing to deal with things on Dom’s terms.

10

“You break her heart, I’ll break your neck.”

Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel)

Dom explains his life to Brian in Fast and Furious

Brian and Mia have one of the best relationships in the world Fast and FuriousThe franchise and the first film is where their initial romance begins to blossom. Brian falls in love with Mia as soon as he befriends Dom. Of course, Dom is an intimidating guy to have around when Brian is dating his sister, and although their friendship grows strong, Dom offers a stern warning that assures Brian he doesn’t want to screw it up.

There’s no doubt that Dom is serious because, at that particular moment, Mia is the only blood relative he has. His relationship with her was always deep as well. She supports him and does her best to be part of the life he has chosen, although she is generally laid back. In the upcoming issues, she will be seen revealing her secrets to Dom before Brian.

9

“Why don’t you girls pack your bags before I leave floor marks on your face?”

Letty (Michelle Rodriguez)

Michelle Rodriguez as Letty in the Fast and Furious franchise

Even though the first film was more focused on Brian and Mia’s romance, the relationship between Dom and Letty became the heart of the film. Quick saga in many ways. Although Dom initially seems like a man who isn’t too eager to settle down, Letty has the kind of stamina that can handle him. In the early stages of the film, Letty arrives at a nighttime racing event and sees two women flirting with Dom.. Without hesitation, she informs them that it would be in their best interest to leave.

Dom is just as impressed as the viewers when he sees Letty warning them, as he understands that she is doing it out of love. She’s not just making an empty threat. Throughout the franchise, Letty has proven herself to be one of the most impressive fighters of all the heroes.

8

“The only thing that attracted me was you. Being friends with your brother is just a bonus.”

Brian O’Conner (Paul Walker)

Mia flirts with Brian in Fast and Furious (2001)

With Brian no longer appearing in the Quick saga Due to the tragic death of Paul Walker, it’s a shame that audiences will no longer get to see the relationship between Brian and Mia play out in the films. The first film sets up their romance, which emerges unexpectedly and compromises Brian’s secret mission. While alone with Brian, Mia compliments Dom, claiming that everyone is always attracted to him. Brian disagrees, arguing that it wasn’t Dom who attracted him to the team, but her.

Brian isn’t being sincere because what really attracted him was his desire to take down the crew. However, what made him change his mind was his love for Mia. If she hadn’t been there, he probably would have gone ahead and finished the job instead of warning Mia that the police were after Dom.

7

“I live my life a quarter of a mile at a time. Nothing else matters… Not the mortgage, not the store.”

Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel)

Dominic Toretto stands in front of a street full of souped-up cars in The Fast and the Furious

As much as there are many amusing qualities in the first Fast and Furious movie, it’s likely that the franchise would never have become what it is if it weren’t for the character Dominic Toretto. As the audience is introduced to the world of street racing, Dom’s passion and dedication to this world enhances the story. Dom has a heart-to-heart with Brian in the garage where he explains his life principles. He claims that driving is all that matters to him. With every quarter mile he travels on the road, he forgets all his problems.

Dom really has a lot of tribulations to deal with. He is short on money and that is why he continues to carry out truck robberies. Furthermore, he has many enemies, the main one being Johnny Tran. However, none of this bothers him. As long as he can step on the gas every day, he’ll be happy. It is this philosophy that makes him one of the best film pilots of all time.

6

“If you want time, buy the magazine.”

Agent Bilkins (Thom Barry)

Bilkins orders Brian to hurry up with the investigation in The Fast and the Furious (2001)

Given the heights that the Quick saga has grown over the years, it’s easy to forget that films began with what was essentially an imitation of Breaking point. The undercover cop story with Brian may not be original, but it makes for great police moments in cinema, like this one. FBI Agent Bilkins soon begins to give Brian a hard time about taking too long to take down the Toretto crew.. Brian insists he needs time, but Bilkins sarcastically advises him to buy Tempo Magazine if he needs time.

Bilkins is right to give Brian a hard time because the sooner the job is done, the better it will be for everyone. A part of him also suspects that Brian is stalling. Ever since Brian fell in love with Mia, he has been on the fence about participating in the arrest of Dom and his crew. THE Quick saga was also able to lean on corny jokes like this, and it works in part because of the seriousness with which they’re told.

5

“Spirit. Thank you. Thank you for providing us with direct port nitrous injection and four-core intercoolers. Thank you.”

Jesse (Chad Lindberg)

Dom and his crew having a backyard barbecue in The Fast and the Furious

One of the recurring ideas in Quick saga It’s seeing these tough criminals get together and give thanks at their traditional family dinners. These moments highlight the feeling of togetherness and family these characters share. Interestingly, looking back at the first film, there are some key members of the Fast Family who are no longer in the franchise, including Jesse.

Dom’s young crew member gets a little awkward as he struggles to say grace at the table. However, their unique take on blessing shows the common interests that brought these people together and helped make them so close to each other. This really solidifies them as an atypical family with their own values, but it also highlights the love that is always at the center of these films.

4

“Brian Earl Spilner? Sounds like the name of a serial killer. Is that what you are?”

Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel)

Dom and Brian appear in Fast and Furious

The first conversation Dom has with Brian comes when he breaks up a fight between the undercover cop and Vince. Dom checks his license to see who he really is and when he reads his name, he proceeds to throw shade at him. Obviously, Brian’s superiors didn’t give him the best-sounding secret name, but it works because Dom considers him nothing more than a troublemaker.

Dom is usually the stern and stoic leader of the team, but the first film allows him to relax a little more, which is fun to see compared to the character’s fate later in the franchise. It’s rare to see him make jokes like this in the other films, but seeing him tease Brian helps establish the brotherly bond they have in the films, and this is cemented for the first time in Fast and Furious.

3

“If you want a piece of ass, go to Hollywood Boulevard. If you want an adrenaline rush, it’ll be two big ones.”

Letty (Michelle Rodriguez)

Letty looks sideways while sitting inside a car in The Fast and the Furious

Although Letty has a much more significant role in the later films, Fast and Furious helps establish her as one of the story’s standout characters. It’s not hard to see why she was brought back into the fold, as Letty is a charming love interest for Dom, but she can also be her own strong, independent woman. This is shown in Race Wars, when a man tries to flirt with her, only for Letty to quickly shut him down and make it clear that she belongs in the race as much as anyone else there.

The line perfectly sums up Letty’s no-nonsense style and her demand to be taken seriously in this male-dominated world. Michelle Rodriguez’s delivery also makes Letty even more likable. Instead of looking like she’s angry or insulted by the man, Letty simply looks bored because he’s clearly not worth her time.

2

“Even Hollywood cops are Hollywood.”

Brian O’Conner (Paul Walker)

Brian has fun with the sergeant. Tanner's knowledge of Hollywood in The Fast and the Furious (2001)

Brian’s role in the first film sees him switching between the world of crime and the world of law enforcement while dealing with this undercover mission. A subtle but effective detail is the different ways in which the two worlds are represented. Dom and his team live a measured and modest life like modern-day outlaws, while the police headquarters are housed in a luxurious Hollywood mansion. Without realizing it, the public sides with the most down-to-earth criminals.

When Brian sees the extravagance of the police base of operations, he comments on it in a somewhat dismissive and disapproving manner.. This is another little detail that shows where Brian feels most comfortable. Throughout Fast and FuriousIt’s clear that Brian is more attracted to Dom and the others’ lifestyle than his career as a police officer.

1

“It’s not how you stand next to the car, but how you race with it.”

Edwin (Ja Rule)

Edwin gives Brian some advice in The Fast and the Furious

THE Quick saga has a long tradition of bringing rappers and musical artists to play roles in films. Before Cardi B and Ludacris joined the franchise, Ja Rule was the first rapper-turned-actor to land a role in the franchise as driver Edwin in one of the film’s early racing sequences. Not only does it set a fun trend that continues in the franchise, but it alsoHe also offers some good advice to Brian as he prepares for his first race.

Brian runs the risk of looking like a poser in this world and Edwin seems to realize the fact that he’s new to the game. Although Edwin isn’t a major character in the film and is even humiliated in his first race, his words to Brian echo the kind of philosophy Dom has regarding racing. In this community of outlaws, nothing speaks louder and earns more respect than driving skills.

The first film in the Fast & Furious franchise, The Fast and the Furious introduces Brian O’Conner (Paul Walker), an undercover cop tasked with infiltrating Dominic Toretto’s (Vin Diesel) gang of street racers to investigate a series of vehicular robberies. .
