As the champion of Star Wars era of live action TV shows, The Mandalorian and its characters became absolutely fundamental to the Star Wars myths, with an impressive collection of significant events that greatly impacted the galaxy. Following Mandalorian bounty hunter Din Djarin and his young companion Grogu The Mandalorian quickly captured the hearts of his audience with the unlikely yet strong bond formed between this lone warrior and his mentee. Since then, their story has continued to flourish, intertwining with the likes of Star Wars best characters – including Ahsoka Tano, Luke Skywalker and more.
The timeline of its events follows the same dating system used throughout Star Warswhich revolves around the events of A New Hope. The Battle of Yavin, which occurs when Luke Skywalker destroys the first Death Star, serves as the centerpiece of the Star Wars timeline. Everything else occurs before this event (ABY) or after (ABY).
It is important to note, however, that The Mandalorianthe precise timeline is still unknown. There are conflicting reports about when exactly these events occur, with the Star Wars Timelines reference book citing that everything before The Mandalorian Season 3 takes place in the year 9 ABY, while series creator Jon Favreau has stated before that these events occur with the same time gaps that audiences have experienced in real life between seasons. This timeline follows the last report, approximating the years in which The Mandalorianevents happen.
9 ABY: Lawlessness Prevails on the Outer Rim
Din Djarin receives a high-profile job from an imperial client
The Mandalorian begins when Din Djarin completes a bounty hunting job on the planet Pagodon and receives a new offer from Magistrate Greef Karga of the Bounty Hunters Guild: a face-to-face commission from a mysterious Imperial client. Cited as the best bounty hunter in parsec, the Client tasks Din with tracking down a 50-year-old target in exchange for a large amount of beskar, high-value Mandalorian steel that was looted from them during the Great Purge of Mandalore. After creating a new piece of armor with his initial beskar, Din sets out to find his target.
Din Djarin meets Grogu on Arvala-7
Din tracks his target to the planet Arvala-7, where he is saved from blur by an Ugnaught named Kuiil. Having heard the legends of the Mandalorians, Kuiil offers to teach Din how to ride blurrgs before guiding him to Camp Nikto, where Din’s target is hiding. When the bounty hunter droid IG-11 arrives simultaneously, Din is forced to work with the IG unit to eliminate the Niktos. Once inside the camp, Din realizes that his target is a child, the Force-sensitive “Baby Yoda” Grogu.and he kills IG-11 before the droid can eliminate the target.
Grogu saves Din Djarin from a Mudhorn
With Grogu in tow, Din Djarin returns to his home. Razor Crest hunts, only to discover that it has been dismantled by Jawas. He returns to Kuiil’s farm, seeking help in recovering his ship’s parts, and is tasked by them with retrieving a mudhorn egg. The mudhorn puts up a dangerous fight, and Din is nearly killed by the beast until Grogu uses the Force to save the bounty hunter.. Din, unfamiliar with the Force, is shaken by the event, but still manages to take the egg to the Jawas and repair his ship with Kuiil’s help.
Din Djarin hands over Grogu before rescuing him again
Despite his conflicted feelings towards the child, Din Djarin still denounces him, initially unable to go against the Guild Code. After accepting payment for the beskar and making new armor from it, he intends to move on to other work. He, however, experiences a change of heart and storms the Imperial fortress to rescue Grogu. Greef Karga sends his bounty hunters after Din, but the other Mandalorians hiding on Nevarro come to Din’s aid, allowing him to escape the other world with Grogu.
Din Djarin and Grogu go on the run
Over the next few months, Din Djarin and Grogu go on the run, avoiding bounty hunters whenever and wherever they can. They make a stop on the backwater world of Sorgan, where they meet former rebel shock trooper Cara Dune as she and Din join forces to protect a farming village from invaders. After a bounty hunter finds them there, Din and Grogu return to the stars, where another encounter with a hunter has them making a stop on Tatooine. There, they meet Peli Motto, a mechanic who becomes endeared to this unlikely duo.
Din takes a bounty hunting job on Tatooine with a rookie hunter named Toro Calican to pay Peli Motto for his services, but after they arrest bounty hunter Fennec Shand, Toro turns against Din. Din makes quick work of eliminating him and escapes Tatooine with Grogu. Still in need of work, Din answers a call from an old contact named Ranzar Malk to complete a prison robbery. The group of mercenaries attempts to betray Din, but he gains the upper hand, arresting half of them while sending a New Republic hit squad against the others.
Din Djarin and Grogu return to Nevarro and defeat Moff Gideon
Din finally receives a transmission from Greef Karga, proposing that they team up to eliminate the Imperial threat on Nevarro. Knowing they can’t run forever, Din hesitantly accepts, though he takes Cara Dune and Kuiil with him as backup. Greef secretly has plans to betray Din, but After Grogu saves the magistrate from a life-threatening injury, Greef changes his mind. He kills his own reinforcements before he and Din make a plan to kill the Imperial Client. Unfortunately for them, however, the Customer is not their biggest threat.
Moff Gideon, the Imperial Security Bureau (ISB) officer responsible for the Great Purge, arrives and has his forces surround Din, Greef, and Cara. IG-11, now reprogrammed as a nurse droid by Kuiil, saves Grogu from the stormtroopers and comes to his rescue as well. Din almost dies in the ensuing battle, but IG-11 saves his life. The group then searches for the Mandalorians, but only the Armorer is left, and she questions Din with Grogu’s return to the Jedi before making them a clan of two. IG-11 then sacrifices his life to give Din the opportunity to defeat Moff Gideon.
10 ABY: Secret Imperial Remnants Grow Stronger
The Clan of Two Seeks Mandalorians and the Jedi
Following the Armorer’s command, Din Djarin and Grogu begin searching the galaxy for other Mandalorians to help them find the Jedi. A clue takes him back to Tatooine, where he meets Cobb Vanth, the Marshal of Mos Pelgo who wears Boba Fett’s old armor. Din helps the marshal defeat a krayt dragon in exchange for the armor, which he intends to return to the Mandalorians. Din then gains another lead from the Frog Lady, although his journey to the moon Trask goes awry when Din is pursued by New Republic guards. Eventually they reach Trask.
Din Djarin meets Bo-Katan Kryze and her Mandalorians
Din and Grogu are nearly killed by Quarren fishermen on Trask when Bo-Katan Kryze and her Mandalorians, Koska Reeves and Ax Woves, arrive to save them both. Din, however, is unfamiliar with Bo-Katan and her Mandalorian ways.which allows her to remove her helmet. Despite this difference in ideology, Din eventually agrees to help her on a mission in exchange for information about the Jedi. They claim an Imperial cruiser for the Mandalorians’ mission to retake Mandalore, and Bo-Katan tells Din where he can find former Jedi Ahsoka Tano.

After making a stop on Nevarro, where Din helps Greef and Cara destroy an Imperial laboratory and discovers that Moff Gideon is still alive, Din and Grogu arrive on the planet Corvus. There, Din and Grogu meet Ahsoka Tano, who speaks to Grogu through the Force and reveals his name and past to Din. Seeing Grogu’s attachment to Din, Ahsoka refuses to train the child. Din even comes up with a new solution by helping Ahsoka rescue the city of Calodan from the cruel magistrate Morgan Elsbeth, and she sends them to Tython.
Grogu is captured by Moff Gideon on Tython
Many surprises await the clan of two on Tython. Following Ahsoka’s instructions, Din places Grogu on the seer stone on top of a mountain, which puts Grogu under a Force-induced trance that not even Din can break. Boba Fett and Fennec Shand arrive in the middle of this, demanding that Boba’s armor be returned to him, but they are all distracted by the arrival of Gideon and the Empire. Gideon destroys Din’s Razor Crest while his dark soldiers capture Groguleaving Din alone and stranded. Boba and Fennec, however, offer to help him in exchange for Boba’s armor.
Din Djarin breaks his Mandalorian creed in Morak
Din, Boba, and Fennec take Cara to help them temporarily free Migs Mayfeld, one of Ranzar Malk’s mercenaries, from prison. The former Imperial sniper helps them locate an Imperial terminal on the planet Morak, where they can obtain the coordinates of Gideon’s light cruiser. This terminal, however, requires a facial scan and Din removes his helmet – thus breaking his Mandalorian Creed. After Mayfeld kills an Imperial officer, the pair escape and Mayfeld destroys the Imperial refinery, gaining his freedom. With the coordinates in hand, Din and his allies prepare for a rescue.
Din Djarin rescues Grogu from Moff Gideon
Din and his allies encounter Bo-Katan and Koska, and he recruits them for his rescue mission on the condition that the Mandalorians can take Gideon’s light cruiser to reclaim Mandalore. The group, now consisting of Din, Cara, Bo-Katan, Koska, and Fennec, infiltrates the light cruiser, with Din going after Grogu while the others go after Gideon. The Moff, however, is found by Din inside Grogu’s cell, and the Mandalorian is forced into a duel when Gideon attacks him with the Darksaber. Din’s victory accidentally earns him the ancient weapon, which Bo-Katan has been wanting.
Luke Skywalker arrives to take Grogu from Din Djarin
Rescue is not that simple. Gideon’s Dark Troopers, who Din initially put out of commission by throwing them into space, return and corner the group inside the light cruiser’s bridge. A mysterious Jedi then arrives and saves everyone from the droids, and after entering the bridge, he reveals himself to be Luke Skywalker. Having heard Grogu through the Force on Tython, he prepares to take the child to Jedi training. Din and Grogu exchange an emotional goodbye, where Din reveals his face to Grogu for the first timebefore their clan officially separates.
11 ABY: Unrest grows on the outer rim
Din Djarin reunites with his disguise and is excommunicated
Long after this goodbye, Din Djarin returned to bounty hunting, now seeking the location of his Mandalorian hideout. He eventually finds them on the Glavis Ringworld, where he joins the group and receives training with the Armorer’s Darksaber. After the Mandalorian Paz Vizsla challenges Din to a duel for the ancient weapon, Din is forced to reveal that he had already taken off his helmet before. The Armorer declares that he is no longer a Mandalorianand that his only hope for redemption is to bathe in the Living Waters beneath the mines of Mandalore.
Din, dejected, travels by public transport to Peli Motto on Tatooine, where he intends to get a replacement for his Razor Crest. The mechanic instead gifts him an N-1 starfighter, which the two modify and repair together. After a test flight, Din is approached by Fennec Shand with a request for help in the battle against the Pyke Syndicate, who have attempted to invade Boba Fett’s territory in Mos Espa. Din agrees, but first insists on visiting Grogu on the planet Ossus, where he is receiving Jedi training from Luke Skywalker.

Meanwhile, Grogu is training with Luke, although his heart is never really into it. Luke tries to help Grogu by talking to him about his memories of Order 66 and taking him around the planet, but even as Grogu grows in the Force, his enthusiasm still wanes. Luke decides to give Grogu a choice between two paths: the Jedi Path and the Mandalorian Path. The latter is represented by the gift of beskar chainmail that Din initially decided to bring to Grogu before being rejected by Ahsoka Tano. Grogu ultimately chooses to stay with his father.
Din Djarin helps Boba Fett in the battle of Mos Espa
After being removed from Ossus by Ahsoka Tano, Din Djarin is able to fully focus on helping Boba Fett, Fennec Shand, and their allies in the Battle of Mos Espa. He also tries to recruit Cobb Vanth and Mos Pelgo, now known as Freetown, but the marshal politely declines. After bounty hunter Cad Bane takes down the marshal, Freetown appears to avenge its marshal. They arrive just as Din and Boba’s allies are about to be defeated, providing them with a new resurgence.

Intent on earning his redemption in the Living Waters of Mandalore, Din Djarin takes Grogu with him to gather all the help he can get, starting with a spelunking droid. He is unable to bring IG-11 back to life on Nevarro, but ends up accepting Peli Motto’s offer to purchase the R5-D4 astromech in IG’s place. Din and Grogu visit Bo-Katan Kryze to join forces to retake Mandalore, but the Mandalorian heiress insists that her plans no longer exist, due to her having lost the Darksaber to Din. After Bo-Katan tells him where the mines are, Din travels to Mandalore anyway.
Bo-Katan Kryze saves Din Djarin twice on Mandalore
Din Djarin and Grogu run into trouble on Mandalore when a cyborg captures and incapacitates Din. Grogu attempts to free his father figure using the Force, but after his attempt fails, Din instructs the child to go to Bo-Katan in the Kalevala. Grogu complies, and upon returning to Bo-Katan’s castle, the heiress acts quickly. The two, along with R5, travel back to Mandalore in his Gauntlet, where Grogu manages to guide Bo-Katan back to where Din is being held captive. They arrive just in time, and Bo-Katan defeats Din’s captor using the Darksaber he was disarmed from.
Once Din regains consciousness, he insists on continuing to the Living Waters, and Bo-Katan acts as his guide. When Din enters the water, he falls into the depths, unaware of how the planet’s orbital bombardment caused the bottom of the cave to empty. Bo-Katan jumps in after him to rescue him once more, and On her way back to the surface, she spots a Mythosaurus residing in the Living Waters.. Bo-Katan, shocked by what she saw, says nothing and instead focuses on getting the small team out of Mandalore.
Din Djarin, Grogu and Bo-Katan seek refuge with Din’s Covert
The group, however, is quickly pursued by Imperial TIE interceptors, and a ship battle ensues on the Kalevala. Bo-Katan manages to get Din back to her N-1 before the bombers move in and destroy her castle. Soon, news arrives from Captain Carson Teva, ranger of the New Republic, that Nevarro is under siege by pirates. Din Djarin advocates for his fellow Mandalorians to rescue the planet, insisting it’s time for them to live outdoors once again. Bo-Katan reinforces her vision, and the other Mandalorians eventually agree. They go to Nevarro to resist the Pirate King Gorian Shard’s takeover, and after a brief battle on foot and in the air, the Mandalorians defeat the pirate forces. Greef Karga offers them a large plot of land in exchange for their efforts.
Din Djarin and Bo-Katan Kryze reunite other Mandalorians at Plazir-15
Bo-Katan’s leadership efforts during this siege convince the Armorer that it is indeed time to retake Mandalore, and that Bo-Katan must be the one to lead them. After ordering her to remove her helmet and walk between both worlds, Bo-Katan is tasked with reuniting her lost Mandalorians. She takes Din Djarin and Grogu with her to the planet Plazir-15, where her forces reside as hired mercenaries. After helping the planet with an android problem, Bo-Katan stands up to her people, even dueling Ax Woves for leadership. There, Din reveals that Bo-Katan gained the Darksaber on Mandalore and she has regained his loyalty.
The Mandalorians fight Moff Gideon’s forces to retake Mandalore
Bo-Katan and Din Djarin attempt to facilitate a union between two very different sects of Mandalorians as they prepare to retake their homeworld. A team of volunteers explores the planet’s surface while the rest of the Mandalorian fleet waits in the atmosphere, and this team quickly comes across a group of Mandalorian survivors, who guide them to the Great Forge. There, however, they walk into a trap, as it is revealed that Moff Gideon has escaped custody and has been using the planet as a secret base. Din is captured while the other Mandalorians escape.
With Ax Woves ready to alert the fleet, the rest of the Mandalorians descend to the planet’s surface and charge into battle under Bo-Katan’s leadership. Meanwhile, Grogu sets out alone to free Din, and the two work together to find and kill Moff Gideon. Grogu, however, is trapped with three Praetorian Guards, and Din is nearly defenseless against Moff Gideon’s new Dark Trooper armor. Bo-Katan arrives to fight Gideon, allowing Din to help Grogu. The three then work together to fight Gideon, who dies in an explosion.

Now that Mandalore is back in the hands of his people, Din Djarin reevaluates his priorities and comes to one: Grogu. He formally adopts Grogu as his son and helps him rise to the rank of Mandalorian apprentice. The Armorer tasks Din with taking Grogu on his apprentice journeys.and Din leaves for the New Republic outpost Adelphi. There, he makes a backdoor deal to be hired for bounty hunting work on behalf of the New Republic before he and Grogu return to their new home on Nevarro – where their journey in The Mandalorian go away.
