After 41 Years, Luke Skywalker’s Newest Star Wars Showdown Confirms Just How Powerful He Is Post-Original Trilogy

Notice! This post contains SPOILERS for Star Wars: Battle of Jakku – Insurgency Rising #4

After 41 years, Star Wars is showing how powerful Luke Skywalker it was in the aftermath of the original trilogy. As seen in the new Marvel movie Battle of Jakku series, Luke Skywalker and his fellow Rebels have worked to fight the fractured Empire as the Rebel Alliance becomes the New Republic. This includes major conflicts with a dark side cult, as well as Moff Adelhard and his Iron Block, providing Luke with the perfect means to display his impressive Jedi abilities when he was truly at his peak.

As seen in the new Star Wars: Battle of Jakku – Rise of the Insurgency #4 by Alex Segura and Leonard Kirk, Luke Skywalker infiltrates the Iron Blockade of Adelhard to save a group of captured rebels who have been sent to investigate the Moff’s hold on the Anoat sector (one of these rebels is Poe Dameron’s father). Not only does Luke Skywalker fight a new Inquisitor, but he also has a final confrontation with Adelhard himself, wiping out his forces with very little effort (and one of the most impressive Star Wars diss of all time):

Luke Skywalker defeats Adelhard's Stormtroopers

Completely defeating Adelhard, it’s quite impressive to see Luke Skywalker absolutely in his primeespecially when considering that the sequel trilogy had Luke greatly diminished and largely removed from the galaxy following the loss of his Jedi academy and Ben Solo’s corruption to the dark side.

Luke Skywalker was an epic Jedi Knight after Return of the Jedi

Mandalorian season 2 was just the tip of the iceberg

The possibilities of what Luke Skywalker was fully capable of following the events of the original trilogy have been shown before Rise of Insurgency. After all, one of the most emblematic moments of Star Wars television will always be the end of The Mandalorian 2nd season where Luke also saves Grogu from Moff Gideon’s Darktroopers. Wiping out the entire legion of shadow droids using a combination of his iconic green lightsaber and the Force itself, Luke was shown as a true force to be reckoned with.

Likewise, readers are now seeing even more of Luke Skywalker in his prime thanks to Rise of Insurgency. Expanding on Luke’s mission on Pillio to retrieve a Jedi star compass, the first few issues of Rise of Insurgency I saw Luke dueling with the dark side cult known as the Acolytes of the Beyond. However, this last question Rise of Insurgency is where Luke truly shines as a talented and highly skilled Jedi Knight.

Rising insurgency puts Luke Skywalker’s power on full display

Dueling an Inquisitor before defeating Moff Adelhard

Beginning by dueling Reyna Oskure of the Acolytes, who was trying to show Adelhard the true power of the Force, Luke easily defeats the long-lived Anzanti who was inspired by the Imperial Inquisitors of old. Although she wielded her own red lightsaber, Luke Skywalker quickly realized the truth that she was an impostor and quickly disarmed the fake Inquisitor. He then faced Moff Adelhard directly at the end of this final issue.

Despite having Luke Skywalker surrounded by several squadrons of stormtroopers, the Jedi Knight moves among the soldiers as if they were nothing. Likewise, he also cut the platform Adelhard was standing on beneath him, giving Luke enough time to join his fellow Rebels and escape the Star Destroyer which was under fire from the New Republic. Although the final page of Rise of the Insurgency #4 confirms that Adelhard survived and intends to take the Force much more seriously, certainly doesn’t take away from Luke Skywalker’s impressive victory.

Luke Skywalker’s New Star Wars Showdown Is Just the Beginning

There are still more adventures (and dangers) to come

Luke confirms Adelhard's goals in Insurgency #4

While Battle of Jakku first chapter may be complete after this edition, there is still Republic under siege and Last Stand. With any luck, this means that the adventures of Luke Skywalker soon after Return of the Jedi just started. Likewise, Luke himself seems quite confident that he hasn’t seen the last of Moff Adelhard, and a rematch seems quite likely. Either way, it’s very exciting to see this Star Wars is finally offering a new wealth of stories starring Luke Skywalker when he was in his prime.
