Call of Duty: Black Ops 6The Zombies game mode has been well-received by players new and old, leading to comparisons to the best the undead shooter has offered over the past 16 years. Due to the well-crafted and intricate designs of the launch maps, Terminus and Liberty Falls, fans eagerly awaited any news on what might come next. Following the teaser for the big Season 1 update on November 14th, fans got a glimpse of the newly revealed map, Citadelle des Morts.
Much of the information about this new map is unavailable, but Treyarch has revealed that it is a continuation of the main Easter Egg quest in Terminus as the crew heads to Europa. Current information reveals that it will feature an abandoned castle, a medieval village and more undead horror. This scenario attracted some enthusiastic suggestions that could be a remake of Black Ops 3Der Eisendrache map from 2015, but looking at this theory provides uncertainty, as Citadelle des Morts will most likely be a unique experience.
Why Citadelle Des Morts could be Der Eisendrache
The same area can appear on both maps
The only visual available for Citadelle des Morts currently is a poster showing the exterior of the castle. Its abandonment resulted in a threatening degradation of many of its structures. The comparison with Der Eisendrache comes from the inclusion of a medieval castle in both scenarios, which can be seen in the respective promotional images, the first two in the gallery above.
A major fan theory as to why this could be a remake or reinterpretation of Der Eisendrache is in the courtyard featured in the bottom right corner of the Citadelle des Morts image. The area with the GobbleGum machine is incredibly similar to the Double Tap Perk-A-Cola location in Der Eisendrache. Fans have considered whether parts of the 2015 map will be reimagined in the Citadelle, this time in an Arthurian castle as opposed to the previous Bavarian design. Furthermore, lacks any credible evidence that Citadelle des Morts is a remake.
Why it probably won’t be Der Eisendrache
Developers are focused on the future of zombies
There is no narrative reason why Citadelle des Morts and Der Eisendrache are linked. The latter’s storyline featured characters like Richtofen, Dempsey, Takeo, and Nikolai, searching for the Apothicons and Element 115. Nothing that was presented in Liberty Falls and Terminus suggests that the lore of the old Aether storyline will connect to the modern Dark narrative. Aether. Black Ops 6 Instead, Zombies seeks to create its own lore by moving into the futureunlike the past game mode.
Unless it’s explicitly marketed as a reimagining, like The Giant in Black Ops 3 being a remake of Der Riese by World at war, it’s highly unlikely that fans will see a reinterpretation of Der Eisendrache in Citadelle des Morts. Instead, they may anticipate something original, which indicates the intention to deliver new Zombies experiences using modern Call to action game engine and continuing the Dark Aether storyline in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6.
