David Corenswet’s Superman Casting Rival Addresses Losing the Role to the DCU’s New Man of Steel

David Corenswet’s main competitor for the titular role in James Gunn’s film Superman recently commented on losing the role of Man of Steel in the DCU. james gunn Superman is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated films of 2025, with audiences eager to see how the iconic character will be treated after a tumultuous tenure in the DCEU. This expectation was only reinforced by the cast assembled for Superman, led by David Corenswet as Clark Kent. As the next DC movie approaches, those who missed it Superman They started talking about their experiences.

Perhaps Corenswet’s main competitor in this regard has been Tom Brittney, with the actor recently appearing on Infernal podcast. Naturally, Brittney was asked about her opinion on Corenswet being cast as Clark Kent in Chapter One of the DCU. As expected, Brittney gave a classy response that did nothing more than praise Corenswet: “David Corenswet got it – I mean, the guy was born to play Superman, he looks exactly like him… I think he’s a wonderful actor.”

Overall, Brittney’s comments are as simple as they come. Brittney is correct in her assertion that Corenswet looks exactly like Superman and as such is often labeled as having been born to play the character. Corenswet was possibly the leading candidate to play Clark Kent once Henry Cavill’s tenure ended, with fan castings around the world placing the former as the next Man of Tomorrow in Gunn’s fledgling universe.

As evident from Brittney’s comments, it seems like he would agree; Brittney clearly has no hard feelings toward Corenswet. While many may find this obvious, as both actors are prominent in the industry and are no strangers to losing roles, it would be difficult not to place a lot of hope in being cast as a character as iconic as Superman. Fortunately, Brittney has nothing but good things to say about Corenswet, echoing many of the sentiments DC fans have held since his casting as Superman was announced.

The Right Person Was Chosen for Superman, and the Right Person Wasn’t

David Corenswet as Superman in Superman: Legacy

I must admit, it’s nice to see Brittney accepting the reality that Corenswet is over him. Superman paper well. In a world that is often so full of negativity and hate, it would have been easy for Brittney to hold a grudge against Corenswet. After all, it’s not lost on me that a role like Superman could change someone’s life, especially considering it’s expected to last long after Chapter One: Gods and Monsters in the case of the DCU.

However, I’m grateful that Brittney chose to praise Corenswet in light of this. If anything, it proves to me that James Gunn’s casting choices, regardless of who ended up in the role, were perfect. Superman is a character who embodies everything humanity should be: kindness, positivity, grace and humility. Brittney seems to typify these traits in her comments on Corenswet, just as the actor eventually cast as Clark Kent will surely do once. Superman hits theaters in 2025.
