Loki could return for a third season in the future, but it would risk destroying the character’s perfect Marvel Cinematic Universe ending. Tom Hiddleston’s Loki remains the only live-action MCU TV show to have more than one season. This is one of the many things that make the series special, with Loki also being one of the best projects in the MCU as a whole, not just Disney+. The show is also one of the biggest entries in the franchise’s multiverse.
Loki season 2 ended with the God of Mischief receiving a massive power boost, as Loki is now the protector of the multiverse. While fans wanted to see Loki Season 3 happened, that ending made it seem like the character’s story in the franchise was finished, while other players in the series could appear elsewhere. The latter has already started to happen, as Judge B-15 appeared in Deadpool and Wolverine. However, after a recent update, there may still be some hope for Loki Season 3 to materialize.
Loki Season 3’s Chances Aren’t Completely Dead
The MCU series had a hopeful tease
Talking to CinePOP at D23 Brasil, Marvel Studios’ Head of Streaming, Brad Winderbaum, spoke about the chances of Loki Season 3 happening. The executive didn’t take long to talk about the program, simply saying: “There’s always a chance.”
The quote doesn’t make it sound like there are plans to Loki the third season will happen at this time. However, it’s interesting that the executive didn’t completely eliminate the chances of the beloved series returning, instead leaving the door open for the return of Hiddleston’s Loki.
Loki’s MCU ending was too perfect to be ruined with more story
Loki’s third season would have to undo the character’s ending
Loki ended perfectly. Of course, it was a bittersweet ending, as Loki will have to live alone forever to save his friends and keep the multiverse safe. However, it was the most selfless move an MCU character could makeand the fact that it came from someone who has a huge history as an arrogant villain is incredible. This is especially true because the Loki variant the series focuses on was taken from when the character had just lost to the Avengers, so he was still firmly a villain.
Over two seasons, Tom Hiddleston’s Loki had huge character development. Although sad, Loki The Season 2 ending was in line with the character’s journey on the show, and if Season 3 were to happen, that ending would have to be scrapped. There’s no way that Loki season three could simply keep the title character sitting on his throne and watching over the multiverse without interacting with his friends again. Loki’s new role in the MCU is a great ending to his story, being tragic for him but giving hope to others, and Loki the continuation of the story in the third season would upset her.
