ONE Terrifying 3 cameo contains the deepest references involving a cult horror franchise. THE Terrifying films are played as bloodier and nastier versions of 1980s horror sagas such as Friday the 13thwith their sale being that they go further path further than ever. This gave the series a distinct identity, and Art the Clown (David Howard Thornton) is now a horror icon on the same level as Michael Myers or Freddy Krueger. While the third film isn’t overloaded with horror easter eggs, the ones it does present are easy to spot.
The now infamous shower scene is a tribute to both Psychopath and Scar and shows the bloody carnage that the latter only hinted at. The most obvious reference comes Terrible 3 controversial opening scene, where Art uses an ax to cut through a door and then sticks his head through the hole like Jack Nicholson in The Shining. The most subtle Easter egg occurs when Art attacks and kills a Santa Claus impersonator (Daniel Roebuck) and his friends, which has a big message for the Silent Night, Deadly Night series.
Clint Howard’s Terrifier 3 Cameo Pays Homage to His Silent Night, Deadly Night Sequels
Silent Night fans, Deadly Night 4: Initiation ate well with Terrifier 3
Actor Clint Howard is a very familiar face to fans of the genre, having appeared in everything from Ice cream man for Rob Zombie Halloween. In Terrifying 3, Howard plays Smokey, a barfly and friend of Roebuck’s ill-fated Santa Claus. While Smokey still dies, a gunshot to the head seems downright merciful compared to the fate that will later befall Santa. Howard’s cameo is a tribute to his roles in both Silent Night, Deadly Night 4: Initiation and Silent Night, Deadly Night 5: The Toymakerwhich is an obscure reference even by most horror fans’ standards.
THE Silent Night, Deadly Night the series became famous for featuring an axe-wielding killer dressed as jolly old Santa Claus. Art the Clown dressing up as Santa Claus is an obvious visual homage to the cult seriesbut complicating matters is that although Howard was the villain of Initiationhe never dressed up as Santa Claus. He did, however, dress up as Saint Nicholas in the fifth inning – although his role is a brief cameo.
Terrifier 3 director Damien Leone is a huge horror fan, so Clint Howard’s cameo was a clear hint to the Silent Night, Deadly Night saga.
Terrifying 3 director Damien Leone is a huge horror fan, so Howard’s cameo was a clear hint to the Silent Night, Deadly Night saga. This series may never have achieved mainstream acceptance, but it is a truly bizarre collection of seasonal slashers, with Initiation easily being one of the strangest.
Terrifier 3 Could Replace Silent Night, Deadly Night as the Ultimate Christmas Destroyer
Terrifier 3 is the perfect holiday entertainment for those who hate holidays
Even though the film is quite flawed, Silent Night, Deadly Night Killer Santa is a hard image to shake. That’s why, along with the original Black Christmasbecame the de facto Christmas destroyer. With Terrifying 2 taking place during Halloween, the third film moving the carnage to Christmas only made sense. Seeing Art dressed as Santa Claus and doing his thing with axes, chainsaws and liquid nitrogen certainly makes an impression for viewers, especially as it contrasts with such a joyful time of year.
Terrible 3 The box office success proves that Art the Clown has infiltrated pop culture quite a bit, so it wouldn’t be a shock if the third film becomes required viewing for horror fans every Christmas. It positively brings out the images of the season and is a perfect antidote for those who hate the holidays. More, Terrifying 3 It’s just a better horror movie than Silent Night, Deadly Nightso maybe you should grab your crown (or Santa hat) like the Christmas Destroyer.
