Channing Tatum’s Gambit MCU return would be the perfect way to redeem a wasted X-Men hero

I think an MCU solo film focused on Channing Tatum’s version Gambit would be the perfect place to rescue another wasted mutant hero from 20th Century Fox X-Men franchise. Channing Tatum spent years competing for the role of Cajun mutant Remy LeBeau, and I was thrilled to see him finally play Gambit in the Marvel Studios film. Deadpool and Wolverine. The Phase 5 film introduced the second, more comic-accurate live-action version of Gambit, and I’d love to see Channing Tatum reprise the role in the future of the MCU.

Channing Tatum first auditioned to play Gambit in 2006 X-Men: The Last Standand was later planned to appear as the Cajun hero in a solo film on Fox’s X-Men franchise. This did not materialize, but Ryan Reynolds finally gave Tatum to play his dream role in X-Men Deadpool and Wolverinewho quickly became one of my favorite characters in the MCU. Many have expressed hope that Channing Tatum will reprise the role of Gambit in the future of the MCU, and I think this would be a great way to introduce even more members of the X-Men.

Ryan Reynolds Hints at an MCU Gambit Movie After Deadpool and Wolverine

There have been calls for Channing Tatum to return as Gambit

Gambit with the resistance team in Deadpool & Wolverine

In a recent conversation with Weekly entertainmentRyan Reynolds suggested that Marvel Studios be “obsessed” with Channing Tatum in the role of Gambit, and suggests that this version of the hero will possibly return to the MCU. I thought it was smart for Reynolds to tie Tatum’s Gambit to his own superhero role, as there was little hope from Fox for a live-action Deadpool before the 2016 release. Dead Pool. Now that Channing Tatum’s Gambit has been proven to work, it seems likely that he could be brought back to the rolewhich is very exciting.

I honestly don’t know what goes on behind closed doors in Marvel’s accounting sessions, but I know they’re obsessed with him in this role. It’s more or less the same situation I went through. Once you show it works well, that’s what they really need. Sometimes they just need to see it in action. And Channing is so unique in the way he plays this character, but he’s also so beautiful physically, in the way he moves and the way he can take steps.

Channing Tatum’s Gambit movie should show the darker sides of his character

Gambit is much more than just an X-Men hero

Gambit in Deadpool and Wolverine's deleted post-credits scene

One of the most exciting opportunities that a solo film starring Channing Tatum as Gambit presents is that this hero’s darker sides could be seen later Deadpool and Wolverine. Tatum played a heightened version of Gambit for comic relief in Deadpool and Wolverinewith Marvel encouraging him to exaggerate his Cajun accent and fully embrace the character’s light-hearted side. However, as many of us know, Gambit has a dark side and a villainous history in Marvel Comics, which I would love to see in a more raw and gritty solo film.

Gambit grew up as part of the Thieves Guild before being hired by Nathaniel Essex’s Mister Sinister to infiltrate the Weapon X program and form the Marauders, a group of deadly mercenaries. Helping Storm gave Gambit the opportunity to turn his life around and become a member of the X-Men, and it seems Deadpool and Wolverine Gambit had already gone through all these important events in his life. I’d love to see the backstory of Channing Tatum’s Gambit explored in detail in a solo filmshowing his darker side rather than just using it for comedic purposes.

I want a comic book-accurate rogue to appear alongside Channing Tatum’s Gambit

I’d love to see Rogue and Gambit’s relationship develop in live action

Gambit and Rogue fighting together in Marvel Comics

If Channing Tatum’s Gambit becomes more comic-accurate in the MCU’s future, I’d love to see a more faithful interpretation of Rogue brought to live-action as well. Rogue is one of my favorite members of the X-Men, and her long-running relationship with Gambit in Marvel Comics has been incredible to develop.. It was a shame this novel was never seen on Fox X-Men franchise. Rogue also has dark roots in Marvel Comics, so I think it would be perfect to feature Rogue from the MCU in a dark Gambit solo film.

Rogue began her career in Marvel Comics as Mystique’s adopted daughter and member of the Brotherhood of Mutants, and ends up absorbing Carol Danvers’ powers and fighting against the X-Men and Avengers. Professor X eventually recruits Rogue into the X-Men, completely reforming herwhile Rogue and Gambit’s dark past brings them together brilliantly. Anna Paquin’s Rogue wasn’t comedic at all on Fox X-Men films, so I would love for more of the Marvel Comics character’s history to be explored in the future of the MCU.

Rogue and Gambit deserve more attention in the MCU

Rogue and Gambit were wasted in Fox’s X-Men franchise

Rogue and Gambit were two of Fox’s most underutilized and wasted characters. X-Men franchise, so I think they deserve more redemption in the MCU than most. Anna Paquin’s Rogue Had a Leading Role in the Original X-Men trilogy between 2000 and 2006, but it wasn’t comedic at all and never got a real chance to show off the full range of his impressive abilities. Rogue is a crucial member of the X-Men in Marvel Comics, so it would be great to see her finally get the attention she deserves in the MCU.

The best way for this to happen would be for Rogue and Gambit to partner up, and a solo film focusing on the duo would give them plenty of time to fully develop. Deadpool and Wolverine proved that a live-action, comic-accurate Gambit works well, much better than Taylor Kitsch’s iteration from the 2009 film X-Men Origins: Wolverine. After Ryan Reynolds’ comments, I’m thrilled that Channing Tatum can return to the MCU as Gambitbut I wish this wasn’t such a funny performance and instead debuted his tumultuous relationship with Rogue.
