Zatanna Iconic costume just got a new start, as well as his own secret superpower. DC Black Label is new Zatana: Bring down the house gave one of DC’s premier magic users a new start, redefining her relationship with her father, Zatara, as well as her early years. Now, in number four, Zatana’s costume takes the spotlight, as stunning new secrets are revealed about it.

Zatana was at one point scheduled to have her own feature film, directed by Emerald Fennell. However, it was canceled when James Gunn announced his DCU movie slate.

Zatana: Bring down the house #4 is written by Mariko Tamaki and drawn by Javier Rodriguez. The issue recounts Zatana’s first meeting with the love of her life, John Constantine. Early in their relationship, Constantine gifted Zatanna a magician’s hat. Zatanna assumed it was just a hat, but years later, Constantine informs her that there is much more to him. Constantine tells Zatanna he enchanted the hat with a spell that would protect Zatanna from those who seek to harm her.

This would give her time to increase her magical skills until she is strong enough to defend herself.

Zatanna is not only one of DC’s most talented magicians, but also a highly sought-after entertainer, so she dresses like a traditional stage magician.— which includes a hat. Zatanna’s hat is a key part of one of her most famous outfits, and has shown magical properties in the past, but these have been limited to simple tricks, such as pulling rabbits. Zatana’s hat has never received its own origin.

It was only fitting that Zatanna’s hat would originate with John Constantine. The two met early in her career, and the pair had an on-again, off-again relationship. Zatana: Bring down the house Not only redefines their romance, but uses it as a springboard to explore key areas of her knowledge that hadn’t been glimpsed before. Zatana: Bring down the house Also saw her try and stay one step ahead of a society of spell casters who see her as a threat. Konstantin, deeply in love with her, sacrificed his own life to give her the hat.

While there is some ambiguity over whether the events of Zatana: Bring down the house Are set in the mainstream DC Universe, there is no denying the origin of her hat is cool. Filling in the gaps of Zatana’s backstory has made Bring down the house A fun and compelling read, and number four continues the streak by giving new insight into an overlooked aspect of her study.
