Warning! This post contains spoilers for The Penguin Episode 2The penguin Episode 2 is full of exciting Easter eggs The Batman Along with references to the original Batman lore from DC Comics. Continuing the evolution of Oz Cobb (Colin Farrell) and his lofty ambitions to become the next kingpin of Gotham’s criminal underworld, The penguin Episode 2 sees Oz working multiple angles and just barely avoiding suspicion as he works to pit major crime families against each other. To that end, there are some great Easter eggs along the way.
As seen in The penguin Episode 1, Oz narrowly diverts the blame for Alberto Falcone’s murder from himself to the Maroni crime family. Now, Penguin is looking to take full advantage of the situation as he works to claim an even bigger position for himself, while also contending with the return of Sofia Falcone from her 10-year stint at Arkham State Hospital. To that end, here are 14 of the biggest Easter eggs and references found in The penguin Episode 2.

Sofia’s Arkham Jumpsuit
Same visitation room where Batman faced Riddler
The penguin Episode 2 begins with Sofia Falcone has a nightmare about her past at Arkham State Hospital and her brother’s recent murder. First, Sophia is shown wearing the same inmate jumpsuit worn by Edward Nashton’s Riddler (Paul Dano) after his arrest in The Batman. Likewise, Sophia’s nightmare takes place in the same visitation room in Arkham where Batman faces the Riddler in director Matt Reeves’ 2022 film.
The same visiting site was also the setting where Batman meets Barry Keoghan’s Joker in the cut sequences of The Batman What Reeves and Warner Bros. posted online after the movie’s theatrical release. As such, the same plot not only makes sense based on Sofia’s past, but it’s also a very easy way to connect the show to the DC movie even further. To that end, it’s likely more of Arkham will be shown in future episodes of The penguin.

Robbinsville
Near the Bowery and Crimea Alley
The decision was made by the Falcone Crime Family to move the rest of Penguin’s “Drops” drug operation to the less-profitable Robbinsville. Named after comics artist Frank Robbins, Robbinsville is a neighborhood in DC Comics’ Gotham City that is canonically east of the Bowery and Crime Alley (where Bruce Wayne lost his parents). This also puts Robbinsville quite close to Crown Point (where both Oz and Victor grew up).

Penguin’s Ozzy
Also used in Batman
During the Maronis’ assault on the Falcone drops convoy (which Oz set up through a secret alliance), The penguin is shown armed with an Uzi pistol. This appears to be Cobb’s firearm of choice, considering he was first seen wielding the same weapon in The Batman. Just before his car chase with Robert Pattinson’s Batman in the Batmobile, Oz can be seen opening fire with the pistol on the Dark Knight and Zoë Kravitz’s Catwoman.
11
Uncle Luke
Killed by the Red Hood gang in DC Comics
Luca Falcone (Scott Cohen) makes his debut in The penguin Episode 2. Apparently ignoring Sofia’s claim to the head of the table as Carmine’s daughter, “Uncle Luca” is now running the family operations. In the original DC Comics and New 52 timeline, Luca Falcone was Carmine’s cousin who was killed by the Red Hood Gang just before Bruce Wayne’s official debut as Batman in Gotham City. However, it looks like though The Batman Universe’s Luca is instead Carmine’s brother.

Crime in Gotham is up
(Is Batman missing?)
While driving through Gotham, Sofia listens to the radio where the state of Gotham City is discussed. During the on-air conversation, the statement is made that crime in Gotham is up 42% since Riddler’s attack that flooded major parts of the city. to this end, One has to ask where Batman might be and what he is doingEspecially with crime rates that have risen so high.
Gotham’s rising crime rates could also connect with potential teas from The penguin’s Marketing that featured newspaper headlines and stories from The Gotham Gazette. One such revelation was a newspaper cartoon depicting the lit bat signal that apparently went unanswered for weeks. With that in mind, it’s certainly possible that Batman could be missing after Riddler’s flood.

Talien killed seven women
Sofia’s dark past
The radio also talks about Sofia Falcone’s dark past as the Hangman and her controversial release from Arkham. According to the reports, Sophia was tried and put in Arkham for her alleged murder of seven different women. However, Sophia’s release is due to her recent exoneration, although the reason for that has yet to be fully explained in The penguin.

“Take it up with the Riddler”
Gotham facing the fallout
In a Gotham bar, a desperate man is shown asking for “traps”, although the bartender claims he is fresh due to a drought of the product. When the addict doesn’t believe him, the bartender tells him to “Take it up with the Riddler.” This further confirms that Ridler’s flood in The Batman Almost completely wiped out the city’s cop supply which caused a massive drug epidemic. As such, this is a core reason why Oz is so interested in this new drug operation that Sofia and her brother Alberto have been working on.
7
Detective Marcus Wise
A crooked cop in DC Comics
The drug addict in question is revealed to be none other than GCPD detective Marcus Wise (Craig Walker). In the original comics, Wise was a crooked cop who often clashed with Tim Drake’s Red Robin. Now, it seems that Wise is just as corrupt The penguin Episode 2, having worked for Carmine Falcone and now taking a bribe of drops from Sofia in exchange for investigating the family for any leaks after the Maronis’ hit on their convoy.

“A Real No Man’s Land”
References the main Batman comics event
Inviting several guys to his place who also serve the Falcones, Penguin offers food and girls as he works to buy their future trust and loyalty. One of the girls, named Cinnamon, talks to Victor about what happened at Crown Point. She also says that one of her friends told her how it is “A Real No Man’s Land” After Riddler’s flood. As such, this is a notable reference to the No man’s land Batman event from the comics.
The result of a great earthquake, No man’s land Saw Gotham City fall to chaos and its bridges blown up after the US government declared it a no man’s land, refusing to support the corrupt city. This resulted in multiple gangs and supervillains carving out various sections for themselves. Not only was this the inspiration for Bane’s city-wide takeover The Dark Knight RisesBut a version of No man’s land was also featured in the fourth season of Fox’s Gotham TV series. Naturally, this is also an inspiration for the aftermath of Matt Reeves’ version of Gotham is now facing after Riddler’s attack.

New Iceberg Lounge
Penguin’s got big plans
During the penguin’s party, Oz is shown making promises to his girlfriend Eve that he has everything under control. He also shares his hopes to one day open a new Iceberg Lounge. In the original comics, Penguin’s Iceberg Lounge sits just off the docks on the water with its exterior built to resemble an actual iceberg. Maybe future episodes of The penguin Will see Oz build something similar as he continues to gain more power and influence.

Penguin spoke Spanish
“Am I the only one who knows the difference between Al and La?”
Visit his mother in The penguin Episode 2, Oz is shown talking to Frances’ landlord who called him after he found her outside struggling with her worsening dementia. Speaking in Spanish, Oz’s ability to speak a second language is a reference in and of itself, considering his humorous exchange with Batman and Jim Gordon in 2022 The Batman. After the Batmobile chase, Oz caught the Riddler’s intentional grammatical error with his “El Rata Alata” Riddle before Batman and Gordon did.

Riddler signs at Alberto’s funeral
Edward Nashton still has followers
At Alberto Falcone’s memorial service, a gathering of protestors can be found outside the church. While some held signs protesting Sofia Falcone’s release as the Talien, others held signs with the Riddler’s green question mark symbols. As the pilots issued The penguin’s Premiere, the signs at the protest further confirm that Nashton still has followers across Gotham despite his incarceration in Arkham.
2
Carla Witty
Sophia’s cousin
at the reception, Sofia reunites with her cousin Carla Vitti and her young daughter Gia. While Carla recommends that they take a girls trip to Italy, Sofia later realizes that Carla’s suggestion was motivated by Luca to encourage her to leave Gotham, “For Your Own Good”. In the original comics, Carla was Carmine’s sister, Johnny Witty’s mother, and Sophia’s aunt, while also being the 11th victim of the Holiday Killer as seen in The Long Halloween. But, it seems like though The penguin’s Carla’s version is instead Sofia’s cousin, Luca’s daughter, and Johnny’s wife.
