Simon Kinberg is reportedly working on a new Star Wars trilogy, and there is conflicting information about whether these films will be episodes 10-12. There are a number of upcoming Star Wars films and, until now, The Mandalorian and Grogu It is the only one with an official release date. Rey’s next Star Wars film, supposedly titled Star Wars: New Jedi Orderis expected by many as the next release after The Mandalorian and Grogualthough this has not yet been confirmed.
Notably, The Rey film is not expected to be part of the Skywalker Saga and has not been identified as episode 10which makes sense given Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker it was supposed to be the end of the Skywalker Saga. With conflicting reports about whether Kinberg’s trilogy will have episodes 10-12, however, it looks like a continuation of the Skywalker Saga may be on the cards after all. If Kinberg’s trilogy includes episodes 10-12, it would be a huge disrespect to both Daisy Ridley and Rey and would likely only cause more division in the fanbase.
It is not yet clear whether Simon Kinberg’s trilogy is made up of episodes 10-12
Reports about this possibility were contradictory
Although Lucasfilm has not yet confirmed or denied, multiple sources began to refer to this new Star Wars trilogy as episodes 10-12. This would be a real shock in light of the Skywalker Saga supposedly ending with The Rise of Skywalkerparticularly given Star Wars seems to have maintained this notion for the last 5 years. Although the franchise has launched several TV shows and announced several films, none of these projects have been identified as continuations of this saga.
In fact, projects like Star Wars: The Bad Batch, Andorand The Mandalorian seemed to be a direct and intentional change not only to the Skywalker family tree, but also to the Jedi versus Sith dynamic entirely. Of course, programs like The Acolyte, Obi Wan Kenobiand Ahsoka continued to have connections to the Jedi and Skywalkers, but a new trilogy specifically considering episodes 10-12 would be very different from that. Categorizing these films as the next episodic trilogy would automatically suggest that the Skywalker Saga isn’t over yet.

Daisy Ridley deserves better than simply being written out of the Skywalker saga
The true “end” of the Skywalker saga has always been a bit confusing
If Kinberg’s trilogy is a continuation of the Skywalker Saga, that would be a huge disrespect to Rey and Daisy Ridley. These films have already been described as having new characters, and while it has been suggested that some familiar faces will still appear, that certainly doesn’t suggest that Rey will have a starring role. This would effectively eliminate Rey from the Skywalker Saga, a move that would be both insulting and confusing.
This would effectively eliminate Rey from the Skywalker Saga, a move that would be both insulting and confusing.
In fact, the notion that the Skywalker Saga ended with The Rise of Skywalker It has been confusing since the film’s release why Rey adopted the surname Skywalker at the end of the film. If the Skywalker Saga is over but Rey Skywalker has an upcoming movie, what exactly was the definition of the ‘Skywalker Saga’ in the first place? This would only become even more confusing if a new trilogy was added to the Skywalker Saga but excluded Rey.
Lucasfilm needs to tread carefully with Rey fans and the sequels
The fan base is already incredibly divisive and this could cause further divisions
In addition to this possibility being a great slight to Rey and Ridley, making episodes 10-12 of this trilogy would add fuel to the fire for many Star Wars fansespecially those who like the sequel trilogy. Although many still argue that sequels are among Star Wars worst films, this is certainly not the case for everyone. Many viewers like Rey, and there has been particular fanfare surrounding Rey and Kylo Ren/Ben Solo’s relationship, which has led a dedicated group to refer to themselves as ‘Reylos’.
This would also be an especially unfortunate time for Star Wars to make such a drastic change. There is still a significant divide over Disney Star Wars more broadly, and effectively removing Rey from the Skywalker Saga, would only turn those who have supported the franchise’s new direction thus far against the new films. It would also encourage those who argued that the sequels should be removed Star Wars canon completely, as it would suggest that the Skywalker Saga was moving forward without Rey.
It remains to be seen whether this new trilogy will actually be made up of episodes 10-12, but we hope this will be an entirely new trilogy, separate from Skywalkers. This is true because of what it would mean for Rey, but it’s also time for the franchise to move on; that was the point of the end of the Skywalker Saga. Ideally, Star Wars will soon confirm that the new trilogy is not made up of episodes 10-12, sparing Rey and Daisy Ridley the insult.
