Marvel Reverses the R-Rated Death of an Iconic Avenger, Proving They Are Secretly Capable of Killing the Hulk

Warning: Contains SPOILERS for The Ultimates #6! While the Avengers Earth’s Mightiest Heroes are famous, even if they are not immune to death, especially R-rated deaths that have been suffered by everyone from Iron Man to the Hulk. However, there is one Avenger who fared particularly poorly in the original Ultimate Universe. But in the new Ultimate Universe, his R-rated death is reversed in truly epic fashion and even proves that this unlikely hero is secretly capable of killing the Hulk himself.

In The latest #6 by Deniz Camp and Juan Frigeri, Captain America, Iron Lad, Giant-Man, Wasp, Hawkeye, America Chavez, She-Hulk, Thor, Sif and the Human Torch (aka all the members of the Ultimates), are invading a facility owned and operated by the main villain of this new continuity: the Maker. When the Creator took control of Earth-6160, he used time travel to neutralize every hero in the Marvel Universe. The Ultimates believe that inside this facility are other heroes who have been imprisoned by the Creator and intend to free them. The Supremes are wrong.

This facility is not a prison, but rather a gateway to K’un-Lun. In this new Final UniverseHulk is the new Iron Fist, making him the ruler of K’un-Lun with several disciples who are almost as deadly as he is. These followers of K’un-Lun are highly trained and were transformed by Hulk into gamma mutants. During the ensuing battle, one of these gamma-minions does the unthinkable: he eats the Wasp. However, instead of dying, Wasp quickly grows inside him, snapping out of this gamma mutation, reducing him to a bloody mess on the floor.

The Wasp Reverses Her Death in the Original Final Universe’s R-Rated

The wasp was eaten by Blob in Ultimatum by Jeph Loeb and David Finch

Blob eating Wasp in the original Ultimate Universe.

In Ultimatum – the most shocking event in the original Ultimate Universe – Wasp is eaten by Blob after the ‘Ultimate Wave’ launched by Magneto that hit New York City, killing several other heroes. This death was absolutely horrific and is one of the main things fans remember about this horrific Ultimate Universe event. But now, in the new Ultimate Universe, Wasp perfectly reverses her original destiny in the Ultimate Universe.

Just like in Ultimatumthe Wasp is eaten by an enemy during the events of The latest #6. However, Wasp does not succumb to this fate as she did in the original Ultimate Universe, but instead turns the tables on this cruel foe. In other words, the Wasp not only survived being eaten this time, she simultaneously killed the man who ate her. It’s as if Earth-6160’s Janet van Dyne got justice for her Earth-1610 counterpart, doing so in the most brutally impressive way possible.

Upon defeating this Gamma-Mutate, Wasp suggests she could do the same to Hulk

Hulk was killed from the inside out before in Old Logan by Mark Millar and Steve McNiven

Wolverine killing the Hulk from the inside out.

The dead enemy Wasp was almost as powerful as the Hulk himself, as the gamma formula used by this minion was created by Bruce Banner to make his followers as unstoppable as possible. While this alone doesn’t prove that the Wasp could kill the Hulk (as this minion is clearly not as strong as the Green Goliath), the Hulk’s fate in Old Logan implies that it is a possibility. In Old LoganWolverine kills the Hulk from the inside out in a similar manner to the Wasp in this issue, meaning it’s possible the Wasp could do the same to the Hulk.

Although it is not yet known whether the Wasp can, in fact, kill the Hulkthe death she caused in this edition of The Ultimates is independent. By surviving being eaten before killing the man who ate her, this classic Avengers member perfectly reverses his R-rated death from the original Ultimate Universe in the new Ultimate Universe.

The Ultimates #6 from Marvel Comics is now available.
