Who is Theo in Rings of Power?

Warning: Contains minor SPOILERS for Season 2 of Rings of Power.

One recurring character in Rings of Power Theo (Tyro Muhafidin), who carries almost as many secrets as Sauron (Charlie Vickers) and Gandalf (Daniel Wayman) before their identities were revealed. Rings of Power Theo continues to explore as he discovers a strange sword, loses his mother and interacts with important characters such as Arondir (Ismael Cruz Cordova), Galadriel (Morfydd Clarke) and Isildur (Maxim Baldry). Fans speculate that this little-known character could become the Nazgul or the founder of Rohan.

It’s unlikely that Rings of Power will spend as much time with Theo as he does with Theo, unless his character has an exciting reveal. Several factors hint at Theo’s future role in the fate of Middle-earth. Among all the speculations behind the Rohan and Nazgul theories, Rings of Power provides more evidence in favor of one of these fates over the other.

Theo – Future Nazgul: Rings of Power Theory Explained

Is Theo a descendant of Numenor?

One popular theory about Theo is that he is a future Nazgul. The Nazgul were nine powerful men (kings, sorcerers and warriors), each of whom was given a Ring of Power by Sauron, and who, having achieved great power and reputation, eventually fell under the corruption of the rings. The once powerful people became invisible outside the shadow world and were controlled by Sauron through the One Ring. Some fans have even argued that Theo could be the Nazgul Lord, the Witch-King of Angmar.

Theo is immediately shown as a man drawn to power, especially the power of Sauron.

Theo’s character gradually meets several requirements leading to his eventual path as one of Sauron’s Nazgul. Theo is immediately shown as a man drawn to power, especially the power of Sauron. Theo discovers a hilt with the seal of the orcs, which turns out to be the key leading to the eruption of Orodruin, or Mount Doom. Theo is covered in a scar from a sword with the symbol of Sauron, further marking him as one of Sauron. When Theo activates the orc symbol hilt, it resembles the flaming blade wielded by the Witch King in Peter Jackson’s film. Lord of the Rings.

Theo also often struggles to find a balance between light and dark. In Season 1, Episode 6, Theo’s mother, Bronwyn, helps him ground himself by telling him, “Find the light. And the shadow won’t find you” Later, when Bronwyn died from her fatal wounds, Theo was left without this constant reminder. After his mother’s death, Theo constantly struggles with his inability to protect her and his village of Tirharad.

Leadership is imposed by Theo on himself and those around him. Bronwyn acted as the healer of Tirharada and seemed to act as the village leader. Once she passed away, Theo would logically feel obligated to replace her. In the Season 2 finale, Arondir gives the title “Lord of Pelargir“Theo. These small realizations of power and Theo’s desire to become a soldier make him a strong leader and warrior, capable of being targeted by one of the Rings of Power.

Theo’s connection to places central to the conflict with Sauron also makes him a strong candidate for the Nazgul. Tirharad in the Southlands is actively beginning its transformation into central Mordor, changes that extend beyond the land to its inhabitants. IN Rings of Power The season two finale, the last place Theo is seen, is Pelargir, which is under the direct rule of Númenor. It was said that three of the Nazgûl were Númenóreans, and this title could be claimed by someone who stated:Lord of Pelargir

There’s also a special moment in Season 1 Episode 7 where Theo gives Galadriel his sword, only for her to give it to him. Sauron, disguised as Halbrand, looks at Theo before looking up, allowing fans to assume that he has noticed the young man.

Theo faces many challenges that would make someone strive for power. He wishes to atone for the role he played in the destruction of Tirharad and the death of his mother. His burden of leadership and protection only increases with the title given to him by Arondir, and his deep desire to fight for what he believes in, all of which open him up to the temptations of the Rings of Power. Theo could very well have obtained the ring and led those around him to prosperity before ultimately succumbing to Sauron’s dark power as a Nazgul.

Theo – Future Founder of Rohan: Rings of Power Theory Explained

Influence of the Darkness of the Southern Lands

Another theory Rings of Power Fans say about Theo that he is the first founding king of Rohan. Rohan and his people, the Rohirrim, were horse lords under Théoden in The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers. Fans have speculated that the naming similarities between Theo and Rohan’s seventeenth king Theoden (not to mention Theoden’s son Theoden) hint at Theo’s role in Rohan’s line, especially since Theo’s mother Bronwyn shares a similar naming pattern with Theoden’s niece Éowyn.

Theo’s growing relationship with Isildur, the future founder of Gondor, also points to a possible alliance between Gondor and Rohan in the Third Age. It is possible that Theo and Isildur will be able to begin building signal stations between Gondor and Rohan.

There is also a connection between the seeds Arondir uses to seal Theo’s mother’s wound and the flowers sprouting from the graves of the kings of Rohan. The seed used by Arondir to heal Bronwyn is alfirin, also called cymbelmine. This is the flower of cymbelmyne that blooms over the burial mounds of the past kings of Rohan.

Theo’s relationships and losses make him the founding king of Rohan. If Theo can forgive himself for his part in the destruction of the Southlands by relying on his relationship with Isildur, there is a chance that he will grow up to found a great kingdom that contributed to the fall of Sauron.

Which Ring of Power theory is most likely to come true?

Evaluating the evidence for each theory

While both theories are supported by fans, one clearly has the most evidence, which fits with the storyline being built for Theo in Rings of Power. Meanwhile, whether to become the future Nazgul or the founder of Rohan, the Nazgul theory seems more reasonable.. Theo’s commitment to power, motivating desire to fight and protect, and recurring themes of light and dark strongly contribute to his eventual (albeit well-intentioned) fall into the realm of shadows.

The Rohan theory is fun to entertain, but there is little supporting evidence other than a tenuous connection to the future Gondor, name similarities between the kings of Rohan, and some seeds that heal wounds and bloom on graves. Rohan was founded by Eorl the Young in the Third Age, thousands of years after the events of Rings of Power. Nowhere in Eorl’s history is there a connection between him and the Southlands, although the Northmen are often associated with his bloodline.

Theo could become a leader and vow to help Isildur in the upcoming battle against Sauron.

A third theory about Theo positions him as the Lich King, also known as the Oathbreaker, who swore that his people would help Isildur if he had to face Sauron. The Lich King betrayed Isildur, and he and his tribe became cursed. In the end, the Lich King fulfills his old oath by helping Aragorn. Return of the King. Theo could become a leader and vow to help Isildur in the upcoming battle against Sauron. Theo’s constant vacillation between light and dark calls into question whether he will fulfill his vow, making it a tempting alternate storyline.

However, as interesting as the Lich King’s explanation may be, it’s most likely that Theo’s storyline is leaning toward becoming a Nazgul in the upcoming seasons. Rings of Power. Throughout Theo’s painful and heartbreaking story, it seems inevitable that he will tragically fall into the hands of Sauron. Considering how much mystery surrounds the Nazgul in Tolkien’s lore, such a theory, if it comes to fruition, could potentially answer some important questions for fans.
