Nightmare Vessels combines Mondo’s love of “Vintage Halloween decor“&”Soft vinyl figures

… Adding a touch of fun to the unboxing experience was a big part of this…

Screen Rant: Mondo has always had a library of stylish collectibles. How did the concept for the Halloween 2 Nightmare ship line first come about? And what was the purpose of wanting to bring the public?

Hector Arce: At Mondo, I’ve always aimed to push ourselves when it comes to our collectibles. We love to bring something new to the table. This could be anything from Mondo being the first company to come up with an awesome take on an existing IP or even creating new characters for existing IP. With Nightmare Vessels we aim to do just that, create something fun and new that combines our love for vintage Halloween decor and our love for vintage-style soft vinyl figures. The idea first came about Peter Santa-Maria (Mondo’s other Sr. Creative Director) and I were admiring some of our vintage Halloween decor and wanted to add something to the site. Both of us are also big fans of experiential toys, so adding a touch of fun to the unboxing experience was a big part of that, as we ran down the rabbit hole of ideas, Nightmare Vessels came to be.

Arce & Santa-Maria chose Halloween II for some very specific reasons

Kicking off nightmare vessels with a pumpkin seemed like the most obvious route to go…

Mondo holds the licenses for a variety of iconic horror movies. How did you come to want to start this new product line with not only Michael Myers, but specifically Halloween II?

Hector Arce: Halloween 2 is one of our favorites in the franchise, and it has a really iconic pumpkin design on top of that. Kicking off nightmare vessels with a pumpkin seemed like the most obvious route to go, allowing us to really explore both ideas of classic decor that come with a surprise inside. Adding to the fun and keeping the experiential nature of this collectible, I added an additional element that allows you to dig pumpkin guts (orange crinkle paper) to get to the soft vinyl Micheal Myers figure and the accessories inside. It’s not just about the figure and the vessel; We also created a whole storyline around the product category in the form of a comic strip that will be on the nightmare ship packaging. It’s a great story that’s based on the knowledge we’ve created around the product. Shout out to Jordan Christianson on our team for writing the comic strip and designing the packaging on this one.

Arce & Mondo see Nightmare vessels as a “Blank canvas“For future designs

We have some great ones in the works

Now that you’ve landed on the plan for how the Nightmare Ship will work, do you already have more in the works for other films? If so, can you share what other iconic franchise fans can bring home?

Hector Arce: Yes! We are currently working on the follow-up to this so more details on this to come! We see Nightmare Vessels as a blank canvas, a platform from which we can apply any horror, sci-fi or fantasy IP to. We have some great ones in the works, and I can’t wait for people to see them!

Have you also thought about expanding the Nightmare Ship formula to other properties for which you have the license? My mind goes to the likes of the Joker and how fun it would be to have him situated in a jack in the box type ship.

Hector Arce: Totally, we have been in many brainstorming sessions and the list just keeps growing and growing. We are so excited to see where this goes and hope that we can really play in the form factor for years to come. We are all such big fans of horror, sci-fi and genre films that just thinking of the possibilities puts a smile on our faces.
