Pride and Prejudice spin-off from Doctor Who producer in development

new Pride and Prejudice spin-off show is currently in development Doctor Who Produced by Bad Wolf. Written by the author Jane Austen, Pride and Prejudice was released in 1813 following Elizabeth Bennet and her budding romance with Fitzwilliam Darcy. The iconic work of English literature has been adapted into films and television shows several times, including a 1995 film starring Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle, and a 2005 film starring Keira Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen.

Diversity now discovers that another Pride and Prejudice adaptation called Bennett’s other sister he’s on his way from the BBC. Based on the novel of the same name by Janice Hadlow, the series follows Murray Bennet, Elizabeth’s sister and the often-overlooked middle brother of the Bennet family. “Unlike her sisters, Mary is not your typical historical drama heroine. She’s awkward, angsty, preachy, full of facts, a terrible singer… her mother pays no attention to her and she seems destined to be a blank dance card for the rest of her life… until Mary takes matters into her own hands.

In The Other Bennet Sister, Mary finally gets to experience her own epic love story, traveling from the safety and claustrophobia of her family home in Meryton to the glitz of Regency London and the pastoral charm of the Lake District. looking for independence, romance and acceptance.”

Bad Wolf will produce the 10-episode show, with all episodes written by Sarah Quintrell. Kate Crowther, Becca Kinder and Jane Tranter executive produce Bad Wolf, with Rebecca Ferguson executive producing for the BBC. Quintrell also serves as executive producer along with Janice Hadlow. Dan McCulloch, Bad Wolf’s chief content officer, developed and will oversee the spin-off. The series’ release date and casting information have not yet been announced. Quintrell released the following statement regarding the announcement of the spin-off, expressing her excitement for bringing this new story to life:

“I’m thrilled to tell the story of Mary, the other Bennet sister, about what it means to come of age when you’re different. It’s a pleasure to work with the team at Bad Wolf to adapt Janice Hadlow’s brilliant take on such a beloved classic and find its home at the BBC. I grew up (as an awkward, angsty teenager who got everything wrong…) watching the wonderful Austen adaptations on the BBC. This is what every writer dreams of and I can’t wait to bring this beautiful story to the screen – not least for all the Marys.”

What the Other Bennet Sister Means for the Pride and Prejudice Franchise

Bennett’s other sister This is not the first unique version of the franchise. Various novels and plays expanded the world Pride and Prejudicefocusing on new characters in the same world or fleshing out existing characters. The story of Elizabeth and Darcy has received various modern interpretations, including in films such as Pride, Prejudice and Mistletoe (2018) and Unleashing Mr Darcy (2016).

Austinland (2013) also gives the story a unique spin by starring Keri Russell as a woman who is obsessed with Austen and her work, and who engages in role-playing games with Austen characters. On the other hand, Austen’s story also serves as a basis for Pride and Prejudice and Zombies (2016).

While franchising fatigue is likely to set in for most other intellectual properties, Pride and Prejudice continues to entertain, and there seems to be a fairly constant demand for content set in this era.. Netflix Bridgertonfor example, continues to be as popular as ever. It remains to be seen who will take on the lead role of Mary in the film. Bennett’s other sisterbut it will be a major factor in the success of the show. Now that the official announcement has arrived, more information about it has emerged. Pride and Prejudice a spin-off is hopefully not far off.
