“The Green Knight” has officially replaced Poison Ivy in Gotham lore

Warning: Contains potential spoilers for POISON IVY #26!for a long time, Sam Ivy departed from her original role as Gotham’s resident eco-terrorist, with her relationships with Harley Quinn and Janet of HR softening her once cruel demeanor. However, it seems a new villain is poised to fill the void left by Eve’s transformation, making a dramatic entrance that promises to shake things up in Gotham when they debut with a deadly bang — literally.

G. Willow Wilson and Marcio Takara’s Sam Ivy #26, set to hit comic book shelves on October 2, 2024, serves as the perfect entry point for fans both old and new, launching a fresh story arc for everyone’s favorite plant-loving villain. Now, restored to her full powers after a temporary setback, Evey resumes her fierce and righteous fight for the balance of the natural world.

However, it seems that one or more people believe that the Green Queen is not doing enough, and are taking matters into their own hands. They debut as DC’s deadly new eco-terrorist group – the Order of the Green Knight.

Sam Ivy #26 opens with Janet from HR—Ivy’s roommate and girlfriend—shopping at a natural grocery store, looking for items that the environmentally conscious Ivy would approve of. With her groceries in hand, Janet exits the store, only for the building to explode moments later. The scene shifts to an injured Janet lying on the couch as she and Ivy watch the news about the explosion. The report reveals that an eco-terrorist group called the Order of the Green Knight claimed responsibility for the grocery store bombing.Which tragically resulted in the death of sixteen people, including 2 children, and left dozens injured.

The introduction of the Order of the Green Knight not only hints at a major villain in the upcoming story arc, but is also significant because it effectively usurps Poison Ivy’s original role in DC Comics. Long-time fans know that Ivy wasn’t always the anti-hero or anti-villain that DC portrays today; She was firmly rooted in villain territory and was primarily recognized as Gotham’s resident eco-terrorist. However, Eve’s character has evolved over the years, distancing her from her eco-terrorist origins. So, it appears that DC is now looking to fill the void that Eve left with a new group of villains.

It seems that Poison Ivy will not only lose her eco-terrorist role to the Order of the Green Knight; She will also actively fight against them, putting her at odds with her own nature-driven mission. This revelation comes from synopses for future issues, most notably issue #28, which states, “Evie’s fight against the Order of the Green Knight.” It will be compelling to see Ivy confront a group pursuing what she once claimed as her own mission. In issue #26, even Janet highlights that the men are essentially carrying out Ivy’s goals, raising questions about what will prompt Sam Ivy To oppose the advocating for her own cause.
