Wait, did Dragon Ball’s new hero Daima just introduce the new series’ first plot hole?

Warning: Spoilers for Dragon Ball Daima, episode #4Dragon Ball Daima made it clear that their new hero, Glorio, is a pretty powerful fighter in his own right. However, one question he had for Goku causes a lot of uncertainty and could very well be the first plot hole introduced in the new series.

Glorio is a native of the Demon Realm, and although he primarily uses a laser blaster, he quickly proved that he is no slouch when it comes to martial arts. Glorio made quick work of the bully at the bar, and easily dispatched the Sea of Darkness monster trying to eat Goku. However, not long after this, Goku was able to detect an ambush ahead using his Ki, subverting the enemy’s element of surprise and making defeating them trivial. It was then that Glorio asked a somewhat confusing question that leaves open the possibility of a plot hole.

How can Glorio not know what Ki is?

Glorio’s Ki confusion makes no sense

When Goku explains that he was able to detect the enemy’s Ki, Glorio asks what Ki is, as if he had never heard of the concept before. However, just before this scene, when they were crossing the Sea of Darkness, Glorio was shown to be capable of flight, something that usually requires the user to be adept at manipulating Ki to do so. If Glorio isn’t using Ki to fly, then how is this native of the Demon Realm able to fly the way Goku can?

In Dragon balla user can manipulate the Ki in their body to fly, something Gohan was able to teach even Videl, who had relatively little Ki at the time.. Pan was even shown in Dragon Ball Super being able to fly like an untrained baby, suggesting that the technique is actually very basic. While virtually anyone can use Ki to fly, there have been very few cases of characters in Dragon ball flying by other means. Even divine beings like the Supreme Kai use Ki to fly.

Glorio asks Goku about Ki, apparently unfamiliar with it.

If Glorio was using Ki to fly without realizing it, one would think that the Supreme Kai would have drawn attention to this fact, but that wasn’t the case in the episode. Characters adept at magic have been shown to fly using magic rather than Ki, but there is no reason to think that Glorio has any specific ability with magic. One could also fly with wings, but Glório clearly doesn’t have them either. He also gave no indication of using technology, such as a floating belt, to fly. So the question again is: how does Glory fly?

Glorio’s ability to fly seemingly without any knowledge of Ki manipulation could very well be a plot hole, or it could be something else that will only be explained later. It will be interesting to see if Goku will be able to teach Glorio about Ki manipulation and how it can further improve his fighting skills. Only future episodes of Dragon Ball Daima will reveal the truth, however.
