Romulus made David’s fate after the alliance even more confusing thanks to his droids

Michael Fassbender’s David may not be present Alien: Romulusbut the film’s android characters made their fate more confusing. Fassbender starred in both Ridley Scott films Foreigner prequels, Prometheus and Alien: Allianceas the synthetic/android known as David 8. He was at the center of the planned trilogy, but the cancellation of the third installment meant his story was never completed. This left a big question heading Alien: Romulus about what happened to David in the franchise. There was even some hope that Fede Álvarez’s film would share new information about his fate and place in the franchise.

Instead of bringing Fassbender back as David or another model of the android, like Alien: Alliance also included Walter, Alien: Romulus included two other androids. David Jonnson’s Andy was introduced as a new synthetic who acted as Rain’s brother and protector. Then there was Rook, built to look ForeignerAsh and actor Ian Holm, who the crew encountered aboard the Renaissance space station. Including Rook and Andy could have been done like this Alien: Romulus could avoid addressing David’s status, but the film only raised more questions about the android later Alien: Alliance.

Rook’s story in Alien: Romulus raises more questions about models David

More David Androids could have been created

Rook speaking in Alien Romulus

Rook’s reveal as an Ash-like android in Alien: Romulus is actually quite significant when it comes to David. Ridley Scott’s prequels made model David the main look for androids created by Weyland-Yutani at the time. This becomes evident when Walter appears in Alien: Alliance and discusses how he is an improved version of David’s lineage. However, there is the canonical issue that there are no androids that look like David in Foreigner or the films beyond. There is a real-world explanation, but the mystery of what happened to the David lineage of in-universe androids remains.

This is where Rook becomes problematic and creates more questions for David. Rook looks identical to Ash from Foreigneralthough Ash was designed so that no one would know he was an android. Of course, even after what went wrong on the Nostromo, people still felt comfortable with Ash lookalikes. So why wouldn’t there still be androids that look like David? If Weyland-Yutani was still making androids with shared appearances and troubled histories, so more models of David would also be acceptable. Alien: Romulus doesn’t shed any light on this, unfortunately.

Andy and Rook provided Alien: Romulus with multiple chances to explain the fate of the David Synthetics

Romulus’ androids could have known about David

Andy and Rook have important roles to play Alien: Romulusmeaning the film had plenty of opportunity to explain what happened to David’s synthetics. Both are generations of androids that were created after David. Their connections and programming by Weyland-Yutani could give them access to information that others don’t normally know. The idea that Andy or Rook could have learned and shared something about androids David and what happened to them is viable then.

Perhaps the question for Alien: Romulus I was finding a natural way to incorporate that into the story. None of the characters involved had any direct relationship with David or knowledge of his actions in Prometheus and Covenantwhich makes it easy to ignore. However, Rook’s experiments with the Z-01 black goo have similarities to what David was looking to accomplish through his own experiments with the creation of life. Alien: Romulus could have used the original xenomorph’s black goo experiments to tie up David’s story and confirm the fate of the android bloodline.

It’s also worth noting that there is evidence in canon that androids can access information and files connected to David. One Foreigner the comic showed that David became an android messiah, of sorts, with another synthetic accessing files containing his teachings. Andy and Rook could have done the same on purpose or by accident. Alien: Romulus and provided the audience with some clarity about the fate of David or David’s entire line of android models.

Alien’s Future After Romulus Could Finally Solve David’s Android Mystery

Alien: Romulus may not have clarified David’s fate, whether there are other androids similar to him and other mysteries, but the franchise may still provide answers in the future. The film’s success has made developing a sequel a priority for the studios so audiences can see what happens to Andy and Rain afterward. Alien: Romulus‘ finishing. There’s room for the sequel to connect to David’s fate and bring resolution to how Weyland-Yutani went from just making David’s androids to having Ash as a secret android for Rook and Andy, both of which exist.

The other option is that the Foreigner the franchise is waiting for Ridley Scott to wrap up David’s story and resolve this mystery. This information would probably reach Covenantsequence before it was archived, but now that Scott is developing a new Foreigner filmhe could incorporate these ideas. Explaining where David ended up, whether Weyland-Yutani stopped making androids that look like him, and why they did so, if so, are all possible subjects the next film could address. It would have been great if Alien: Romulus We were part of this, but there is still room to move forward.
