The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of wisdom Features a plethora of echoes for Zelda to use to save the kingdom, but it also features six automatons who can fight by your side as long as you know how to unlock them. The little bot buddies are optional and relatively easy to miss if you’re not looking for them, but they can be super useful, especially when fighting enemies in large groups. To start, you’ll need to find Dampé after clearing the Hyrule Castle dungeon and beating Ganon for the second time.
If you’re not interested in sidequests, the automatons are completely skippable. You can play the entire game and never need one, but they’re super useful, so they’re worth the time to unlock them all. Dampé will help you craft all six with different echoes and items you’ll find on your adventure. If you’re anything like me, you’ll have many of the Echoes already unlocked, so crafting these ottomans should be a breeze.
How to unlock Automons in Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom
Finding Dampé is easier said than done, but look around Hyrule Field
Once you complete the Hyrule Castle dungeon and free the king, Dampe should appear somewhere in Hyrule Field. Unfortunately, where he appears specifically seems random, so you’ll have to explore a bit until you see him. I found him at Hyrule Ranch, but there’s no guarantee that’s where he’ll show up. When you meet him, hit the crow that brought him here, after that he will go to his workshop.

The workshop is located north of the East Temple, and there is a waypoint that you can use for ease of access. If you pass the East Temple on your way, make sure to pick up the stamp there for the Stamp Guy quest, which can reward you with some useful items. Go to Dampé’s workshop, where he will explain that he needs your help to build ottomans and give you access to his journal, which you should read and figure out what you want to make first.
How to build the Techtite Automaton
Choose “Automaton Engineer Dumpé” by fetching two echoes
Technically, each Ottoman has its own quest. First, the Tektite, Dampé will ask you to bring two echoes that you should already have, the Tektite and Mothula.

“Creature with the big eye – the kind that is always jumping around“ |
Tektite Echo |
Seesyde Village, W Hyrule Field |
“Something that shoots hot smoke out of its back to blast forward” |
Mothula Echo |
Gerudo Sanctum 2F |
Both of these are fairly easy to come by, so if you don’t have them, hop on over, defeat one of each and learn the Echo. Once you have obtained both echoes, bring them back to Dampé’s workshop and place them on his workbench.
Dampé will quickly throw together the Techtite Automaton, which jumps around and releases an AoE blast around itself to attack. Overall, I find AoE Echoes the most useful, as precision with a controller isn’t my strong suit, but if the Techtite isn’t for you, there are five more automatons to build.
How to build the Toktorok automaton
Collect “Explosions Galore” by bringing two more Echoes
For this quest, you will have to complete the rift in the Eldin Volcano, so if you haven’t done it yet, come back later. If you’ve done that, you’ll need to bring an Octorok Echo and Firework Echo.

Goron City |
You can only get the Firework Echo from “The Fireworks Artist” Search in Goron City. To start this quest, talk to Basa in the top left room of Goron City.
Basa will ask you to find some blastopowder soil that he can use to make fireworks. To find some, head back to the Eldin Volcano to find Golden Flowers, which can be found in the northwestern part of the area. The flowers indicate blastopowder soil in the area, so interact with the sparkling bit of earth to collect it.
Talk to Basa again to give him the soil, and learn the firework echo from the firework he makes. You should return to Dampé, put the two echoes in their place, and then he will create Tocktorok. This is a mechanical octopus that shoots fireworks at your enemies. It has a relatively high fire and can ignite your enemies, but it doesn’t do too much damage.
How to build the Gizmol Automaton
Collect “The Performance Artist” after Racing for Flags
There are two parts to this automaton, and they are both quite simple:

“A part that makes beautiful tones” |
Prismatic Music Box |
Hyrule Ranch |
You should already have a Zol Echo this far into the game, and you can find the Prismatic Music Box in Hyrule Ranch. In order to get this key item, you need to be successful in the short and medium flag race courses.
Before you participate in the flag races, you need to get your first horse. After you’ve ridden around, head into the ranch house to talk to the woman inside to enter the flag race. It will cost you 10 rupees, and you will need to clear both courses in the shortest time, hitting five flags on your route. Once you do, the woman will give you the Music Box which you can take back to Dampé.
He will build you a gizmol, which is another variation of the zul. It sings, dances, and shoots bubbles that damage enemies. The bubbles remain, covering the battlefield with potential damage and AoE control.
How to build the high-tech Baba Automaton
Total “endless stomach” after chasing down acorns
Dampé will ask you for two more materials:

Acorn Man, W Hyrule Field |
This piranha-plant-inspired ottoman asks you to play another one of Echoes of wisdomThere are many minigames to get an item. To get the steel trap, talk to the acorn man in the western part of Hyrule Field. You will need to collect all 16 acorns in less than a minute; Then, he will reward your efforts with a steel trap.
You will also need a Deku Baba Echo, which you will find in the Suthorn Ruins 1F. Dampé will make you a high-tech baba after you bring him both items, essentially a metallic trap. It does not move, so you will have to lure enemies into it once you place itBut it can be useful to give you a window of attack for more difficult enemies.
How to build the Roboblin Automaton
Choose “Chop them in two” and go to Kakariko Village
For this next quest, you will need two sword related materials:
Clue |
Just needed |
Place |
---|---|---|
“A monster with a sword who fights alongside others” |
No sword-carrying moblin Echo |
N/A |
“a special weapon” |
Legacy Katana |
Kakariko Village |
To fulfill the first requirement of this recipe, you will need one echo of a sword-wielding moblin. It can be any level; As long as it carries a sword, it will work. As for the second part, you will need to brush up on your fighting skills at the Slumber Dojo in Kakariko Village.
In the Slumber Dojo, you will face several enemies and be given a time limit to defeat them. To get the Heirloom Katana, clear six complete stages on any difficulty. Use everything at your disposal, including the interactable object in the room and your echoes, to defeat everything that is thrown at you. Bring these two items back to Dampé, and he’ll create the Roboblin, a robotic moblin that attacks enemies with huge swipes of its sword.
How to build the goldfinch automaton
Once all other automatons are complete, build one last machine
After you’ve built the previous five automatons, you’ll unlock one last recipe:
Clue |
Just needed |
Place |
---|---|---|
N/A |
A crow echo |
Suthorn Forest |
“A real special flashy something” |
Golden pot |
Gerudo Desert Oasis |
Dampé will ask for a Crow Echo and the Golden Fan, which you can get from the Mango Rush minigame in the Gerudo Desert Oasis. To earn it, you need to beat the Standard and Vibrant seed difficulties, which should be quite simple.
After you bring Dampé the last two materials, he will build you a goldfinch. This is an upgrade to the Crow; It swoops down from the sky and attacks enemies, knocking rupees from them. However, it is slightly more effective than the crow and will knock down more blue and red rupees than a crow.
There is one final interaction you can have with Dampé in his workshop; He will offer you a trade for only five monster stones. If you accept, he’ll give you the Clockwork Bangle, which allows you to avoid automatons faster. The Bangle will make your automatons easier to use and is one of many accessories in the Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom.
