The Justice Society Officially Has a New Leader (Is She the Right Choice?)

Warning: Spoilers for JSA #1THE Justice Society of America is back in business and has new leadership in charge of its operations. Jade, daughter of Alan Scott and a Green Lantern in her own right, has officially taken over as leader of the Justice Society of America. Her leadership is not unchallenged, however, as the team she tries to hold together begins to fragment.

JSA #1 – written by Jeff Lemire, with art by Diego Olortegui – continues after the Absolute power event. The team’s older generation of heroes disappeared, and the younger heroes split in two over the direction the Justice Society would take.

Jade is the face of DC’s next generation as she becomes president of the Justice Society and takes on the responsibility of leading the team into the future. She aims to do this by embodying the team’s original ideals, following in the footsteps of the Golden Age heroes who paved the way for her and her colleagues. Despite the nobility of his mission, his companions do not agree with his stance. His biggest detractor is his own brother, Obsidian, who feels that his old-fashioned approach will keep the Justice Society stuck in the past.

Kobra’s threat is the catalyst for the infighting between Green Lantern’s children. Jade believes that everyone should stand together and find a solution to defeat the terrorist; Obsidian, on the other hand, feels his approach is cowardly and wants to put an end to Kobra before he commits any more vile acts. Each of his companions takes sides in the debate, causing disagreements among the remaining members of the Justice Society. Jade’s goal is to unite the JSA, But their efforts may be in vain as the team’s rift deepens.

Although Jade’s leadership is being questioned by her Justice Society colleagues, she possesses all the qualities of an effective leader. As the daughter of the Golden Age Green Lantern, Jennifer-Lynn Hayden inherited her abilities from birth due to her power ring interacting with her genetics. This gives her the superpowers that a power ring would normally provide, such as creating energy constructs. Jade was a founding member of Infinity Inc., a team made up of the youngest members of the Justice Society. In addition to the JSA, she belongs to the Green Lantern Corps as Earth’s first female lantern.

After a breakup with another Green Lantern, Jade joined the Outsiders and eventually became the team’s leader. In this role, she fought bravely in many different battles across the DC Universe. One example was when she led the Outsiders in a fight against the Titans of Myth in alliance with the Teen Titans, who can be found in the 2005 film. DC Special: The Return of Donna Troy miniseries. Jade is more than qualified to lead the Justice Society. But your achievements will be in vain if your teammates refuse to accept your guidance.

JSA #1 is an exciting starting point for fans unfamiliar with the classic team, and a satisfying relaunch for readers familiar with the Justice Society lore. What the Fellowship is all about is being challenged in a unique way, and Jade is a fascinating character for DC Comics to put at the center of that.
