Ted LassoPhil Dunster is joining Steve Carell for a new HBO comedy from Ted Lassocreator. While the status of Apple TV+’s success has yet to be fully clarified, reports have indicated that Dunster will not be returning Ted Lasso 4th season as series regular. Instead, if the football comedy-drama returns, Dunster could make some appearances as Jamie Tartt. This is because Dunster has a busy schedule, having prominent roles in other series.

Now, according to DeadlineDunster has added another high-profile project to its roster. He will star in an untitled HBO comedy from Ted Lasso co-creator Bill Lawrence and Matt Tarses of Rub. Dunster’s character details are under wraps, but it’s his last series after the Apple TV+ drama Surface and the Prime Video thriller The devil’s hour. The actor has a prominent role in all three.

While plot details are limited even after the latest casting update, it was reported in May that Carell will play an author in the upcoming series. The story unfolds on a university campuswith Carell’s character having what is described as a complicated relationship with his daughter. All three shows performed well for Apple TV+, with Ted Lasso in particular becoming one of streaming’s biggest hits. HBO is clearly hoping to capture some of that magic as it builds its comedy block with series from Tim Robinson (I think you should leave)Rachel Sennott (bottom)and now Lawrence.
