Survival Ascended that are extremely useful

Ark: Ascended Survival is full of powerful tames, but some underappreciated or underutilized creatures can still be extremely useful. When looking at the best domes for Ascendedmany tend to look at powerful options like Rex, Reapers and Giga. Then there are options like Argentavis and Rock Drake, which are excellent for travel.

Even though they may not be as versatile as higher-tier options, Ascended It’s full of domas that can be useful. This could be in a singular niche role that has less importance, or as a jack of all trades who may not excel in any area. These tamers usually don’t need as many numbers as others or are only used a few times, but they can still save a lot of time and effort. They come with the added benefit of not being a huge loss if a bad situation arises, whereas losing a top tier tame can be game over.

Spinosaurus is the aquatic Rex

Tamed Knockout

Ark: Survival Ascended Spinosaurus standing near a river.

Although not as underused as some, Spinosaurus is underrated in Ark: Ascended Survival. Spinosaurus is arguably a more useful combat tame to acquire mid-game. Although Rex has slightly higher stats, the difference is made up for by Spino’s passive.

This passive, Hydration, gives Spino 15% damage and 20% movement speed bonus for 30 seconds after entering or exiting the water. Compared to Rex’s buff, Spinosaurus’s is better, as the latter only affects Herbivores. So, for situations where Hydration can be used frequently or any semi-aquatic fight in general, Spinosaurs are the best choice.

Deinosuchus is the new ruler of the swamps

Tame Passive

Deinosuchus entering a river.

Deinosuchus is one of the youngest Ark: Ascended Survival creatures, which is the only reason their domain may not be well known. This powerful reptile has stats that can be compared to the strongest combat tames, but is counterbalanced by its low range and speed. However, Its high stats and devastating bite attack make it great for one of ArkThe most difficult biomes.

This creature is one that players don’t need to tame multiple times, and while it is significantly weaker outside of its home, it is still a worthwhile addition.

Because Deinosuchus can be found in swamps and tamed more easily than most creatures of its status, it is a perfect tame for browsing your home. Because Deinosuchus has surprisingly dominated, the swamps’ only real threat becomes the Rhyniognatha, which is a rare spawn. This creature is one that players don’t need to tame multiple times, and while it is significantly weaker outside of its home, it is still a worthwhile addition.

Kentrosaurus is a great defense

Tamed Knockout

Three Kentrosaurus roaming a mountain in Ark: Survival Ascended.

Kentrosaurus is Stego’s lesser-known but equally useful relative. However, where the Stego is better for resource gathering and early/mid game combat, the Kentro is built for fighting. The caveat to this is that Kentros cannot be ridden by survivorsmeaning they are free to do whatever they want until instructed.

Kentro’s power comes from his two passives. The first of these will allow him to deflect a portion of the damage he takes back to the attacker, while the other will give them extra melee damage. depending on how many allied Kentros are nearby. Due to their strengths and weaknesses, Kentros are best as combat units, whether for PvE or PvP.

7

Megalania, the killer dinosaur

Tamed Knockout

Megalania climbing a cave wall in Ark: Survival Ascended.

Megalania are notorious for being silent killers when exploring caves, which is exactly the reason to tame them. Megalania has a solid but slow attack while also being able to execute targets after a certain threshold. The real power behind this unit, especially for PvP, is the Mega Rabies debuff it can inject. This will drain health and stamina from human targets and leave them defenseless..

The other benefit of a Megalania is as a climber. He can scale walls and cliffs with ease, making him great for cave exploration or vertical maps.. A specific use in Aberration DLC is that Megalania is one of the few tames that is immune to surface radiation. The other options, especially Reapers, are better, but more difficult to acquire.

6

Mammoths are versatile tanks

Tamed Knockout

Mammoths walking in Ark: Survival Ascended.

Mammoths can be as strong as any domesticated for combat, if they are built for it. To go along with this strong offensive power, their Intimidation ability makes them even more worth having. This will reduce the target’s attack by 25%beneficial for regular encounters, but even better for bosses. If not used as a combat tamer, a small handful of mammoths used as frontline tanks can be a blessing.

Outside of combat, Mammoths help gather resources. They are considered one of the best lumberjack options in the world. Ascended. This is also aided by a liability that reduces the weight of the wood they carry by 75%. A bonus use of the Mammoth is its ability to carry most medium-weight or smaller creatures with its trunk.

Thorny dragons are great for the early game

Tamed Knockout

Although Thorny Dragons can only be found on certain maps, they can be a versatile unit. They deal a solid amount of damage in the early and mid gameand can even be used as a long-range defense without player intervention. Even when crafted for combat, their damage and health will decrease in late-game encounters, but they will get players to that stage with ease.

One late-game role that Thorny Dragons can be used for is as a tamer. Your ranged attack will naturally inflict stunand if incorporated into this, it could be of great benefit to creatures with a high torpor threshold. Positioning will be crucial to keeping them safe, but even a small group of Thorny Dragons could completely replace the Narcotics.

4

Megatherium, the insect killer

Tamed Knockout

A tamed Megatherium sits near a snowy lodge in Ark.

A domesticated Megatherium has one job: to kill insects. His moderate attack stats are boosted by his passive, which gives him 50% more damage to any insect. The second part of this passive will give you another 250% increase in damage and 75% resistance when killing a bug. In that sense, while it’s best used for pure bug battles, anything where Megatherium can get this buff will make it a powerful choice.

Overall, while Megatherium may have limited uses, it is arguably unrivaled in them.

With this passive, Megatheriums are also great for collecting Chitin from your defeated enemies. Since they have this passive, Megatheriums are one of the best mounts for exploring cavesalthough they can only enter them via a cryopod or modified alternative. Overall, while Megatherium may have limited uses, it is arguably unrivaled in them.

3

Equus, the prehistoric noble estate

Tame Passive

A player trying to tame an Equus in Ark.

One of the most underrated and least known creatures in the world Ark It’s Equus. It has two general purpose uses that make it a great option to have. The first is as a transport support. Equus has good speed and weight reduction for many of the most collected features in Ascended.

The other use is as a combat/tame hybrid creature. This is because of Equus’s kick which deals stun damage based on its melee stats.. This has some limits to the animals it will work with, but it is largely a great asset for general exploration and taming of medium or smaller creatures.

2

The ultimate defense pachyrhinosaurus

Tamed Knockout

A herd of Pachyrhinosaurs in Ark.

The Pachyrhinosaurus is a distant relative of the Trike, and what it loses in offensive power it makes up for defensively. The Pachyrhino’s main strength is its heavily armored head, which will nullify the projectile damage by 85%. While not as useful in PvE, it makes the Pachyrhinosaurus a great mount to attack Ark: Ascended Survival bases with automated defenses in PvP. Pachyrhino also has the unique ability to generate two gas clouds, one that will calm enemy creatures and another that will provoke them.

The other additional benefit of Pachy is its role as a harvester and transporter of herbivores. The best resources to collect are berries, wood, straw and rare flowers. Unfortunately, Pachy isn’t the best for either of them, but it can serve the purpose of many dinosaurs for a little less money while also serving a combat purpose.

1

Carnotaurus could be a discounted Rex

Tamed Knockout

A Carnotaurus roaring on the Ark.

While not as good for bosses, a Carnotaurus can be equally effective in any other scenario. The stats may not match Rex’s, but the results as a tamed fighter and meat harvester are just a little different. The only area where it can beat Rex is as a cave explorer, while also having a more general purpose than something like Megatherium.

Carnotaurus is best used in the early to mid game where Rex are not available. They are relatively easy to domesticate and the benefits obtained from them are enormous. Even when players have multiple Rex, Carnotaurs can still serve as an easier-to-navigate mount for gathering meat.

Overall, creatures like this prove that most mounts in Ark have some kind of purpose. That’s a beautiful thing in a game as big as this, where many creatures can feel useless at first glance. It’s okay to just use a traditional list of the best dinosaurs in the world. Ascended, but there is no substantial downgrade in using the options that seem more fun. In this regard, these are 10 underrated and underused creatures in Ark: Ascended Survival.
