Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2The next in a long line of Warhammer Games, has launched to rave reviews and has undoubtedly introduced its wonderful grimdark universe to a whole group of newcomers. However, while all those who prefer bolguns to matchlock rifles or chainswords to broadswords have an awkward time with the adventures of Titus against the Tyranid swarms, those who prefer the fantasy side of Warhammer are left behind. This begs the question of why it wasn’t a Warhammer Fantasy game like that Place Marine.
Some ofthe best Warhammer games of all time belong to the Warhammer Fantasy universe, with the likes of Total War: Warhammer 3 Give players an impressive overview of the setting. But, outside VermintideThere were Few games offer a more personal and story-driven approach in the Warhammer Fantasy setting, especially in the same degree Place Marine Series has offered. That absolutely needs to change, as the Warhammer Fantasy setting is bursting with interesting lore and fascinating characters.
Warhammer Fantasy didn’t have a proper story-driven game
It has much more strategy experiences
There are 30 Warhammer games set in the Old World, Sigmar and Blood Bowl settings, which is a truly amazing amount. Although many of them are not that great, and few can live up to the incredible Space Marine 2 Reviews, there are a number of genuine compelling releases, perhaps the most famous of which is the Vermintide Series. But, for each one Vermintde Game, Warhammer Fantasy has 10 strategy games, which makes for an unbalanced gaming experience, at least when it comes to genre types.
For a while, this is not inherently terrible, as, after all, the Warhammer brand has always been associated with the tabletop game, an inherently strategic experience. However, the rise of modern fantasy titles like God of War (2018) And Alden ring Have proven that there is a lot of love not only for the setting, but also for unique third-person action games with a lot of learning and cinematic presentation. so, It’s surprising that Warhammer Fantasy never got its own story-focused third-person adventure game.

Perhaps more surprisingly, the 40K universe has a number of story-driven games and has dabbled in a larger number of genres, from boomer shooters to third-person action games and even RTS. This is a frustrating reality, especially for Warhammer Fantasy fans, viz There is so much lore and spectacle to explore in a more story-focused game. Vermintide Does an excellent job introducing newcomers to the world and factions of Warhammer, but has a lackluster narrative, much like its 40k counterpart Darknessdoes little to inspire a deeper exploration of its lore.
Space Marine 2 is the perfect blueprint for a story-driven Warhammer game
The battle between humanity and chaos is prevalent in Warhammer Fantasy
Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 Already serves as an excellent blueprint for a more story-focused Warhammer Fantasy gameAs it introduces players to the Chaos forces and humanity, and the eternal struggle between the two. While Warhammer Fantasy has a wide range of timelines and factions to draw from, there are many wars waged between the Old World and Chaos. Often, the many human factions and their assorted allies must attempt to defend themselves against Chaos, such as during the End Times when Archaon the Everchosen invaded the Old World in an attempt to completely destroy it.
A Warhammer Fantasy game can put players in the shoes of a soldier of the Empire, one of the closest comparisons to the Space Marines and Imperial GuardTo give them a more relatable character to play as. Alternatively, it can allow players to take on the role of a Dwarf, High Elf, Dark Elf, one of the Lizardmen, or one of the unique factions and very influential characters in the Warhammer universe. It may even follow the same linear structure of Place MarineLet players cut through swathes of Skaven or Chaos while uncovering a greater mystery.
There are many directions a Warhammer Fantasy game could go in that would also avoid overwhelming newcomers, viz Space Marine 2 deals with its complex lore. Unfortunately, no such game has been announced, though It’s easy to see how, after the success of Space Marine 2Games Workshop might want to replicate it for its Warhammer Fantasy series. Of course, there are other ways to get this experience, although it is a bit more complicated.
Fans have created the ultimate Warhammer Fantasy game in another game
Fans have brought the old world to life Mount & Blade 2: Bannerlord By an incredibly ambitious mod Called The Old Kingdom. This adopts the immersive life sim-esque elements and strategic combat of Bannerlord and applies a thorough and lore-accurate Warhammer Fantasy coat of paint over it. So far, the mod has covered the southern part of the Empire States, Vampire Counts, South Bretonnian Dukedoms and Mousillon, although it plans to eventually recreate the entire world.
This mod does not offer the exact same experience as Space Marine 2 – In fact, it’s a very different beast – but It offers a compelling third-person adventure game in which players can create their own stories while meeting iconic Warhammer characters and exploring famous locations. The mod is free to download for those who have BannerlordAlthough it is still under development. Now, it acts as a compelling way to engage with the Warhammer setting like no other game has allowed, and hopefully eventually become one of the best games that started as a mod.
Fortunately, though, Warhammer Fantasy doesn’t have a high-budget third-person game like that Space Marine 2It has 30 other games that players can dive into and fully immerse themselves in its diverse and lore-rich universe. A lot of these are still incredible experiences, esp Blood vessel 2, Vermintide 2And Total War: Warhammer 3. But, hopefully, the next one Warhammer fantasy Game adopts the same style and ideas as Space Marine 2 To give fans their own version to enjoy.
