While exact story details won’t be revealed until the new season airs, it is known that Call the midwife is about to enter its third decade. Although the Christmas special is set during the 1969 holiday season, season 14 proper will enter the 70s and will likely feature all the escalating social conflicts that come with it. Economic disparity was high in 1970s England, and Call the midwife season 14 will probably not hesitate to tackle the age of austerity.

On a more personal level, Season 13’s shocking conclusion involving Trixie and Matthew will certainly have consequences for the other characters, and it’s not entirely clear if they’re gone for good. What happens between the couple could make up the majority of the new season, or they could step aside for a while as they try to achieve the American dream.
