The supernatural hunters could be identified by special tattoos that appeared every time they killed a vampire.

Damon, Enzo, Elena, Joey and Jesse are the only Augustine vampires in the franchise. Enzo was killed by Stefan after he switched off his humanity.

When the Mikaelsons arrived in Mystic Falls and wreaked havoc, an enhanced original vampire was created to kill them. Alaric Saltzman, who was a vampire hunter before he turned, was the only enhanced original in the TVD Universe. The enhanced original was created with the same spell that was used to turn the Mikaelson children into vampires. Alaric was the last hunter, So he has the same abilities as the originals. The only difference was that he would die when Elena did because Esther bound his life to Elena while she was still human.

Although the creation of an enhanced original was necessary, it created a plot hole in it The Vampire Diaries. The whole essence of the originals was that they were the first vampires to have these kinds of powers. The fact that there was another magical being that had the same abilities as the originals, did not match what audiences were made to believe about the Mikaelsons.

The upgraded original vampires are featured in The Vampire Diaries‘spinoff show, The originals. While the Mikaelsons were humans when they became original vampires, the upgraded vampires were vampires before turning. The extremely powerful vampires were Created from a modified version of Esther’s spell that was used to create the originals.

What made the upgraded vampires even more deadly was the addition of poison that was obtained from the seven werewolf bloodlines in the serum they drank to turn. They have similar powers to the originals, except theirs was more enhanced. Their bite can also kill an original, a feat that was considered impossible in the franchise.

Hybrids were a species created by combining two or more supernatural species. Nicklaus, who has a werewolf father, was the first hybrid in the TVD Universe. When Esther turned him and his siblings into vampires, she placed the hybrid curse on Klaus so that his werewolf side became dormant.

However, he found a way to awaken it and thus became both a werewolf and a vampire. The vampire-werewolf hybrids were created when they died with Klaus or Hope’s blood in their system. A unicorn is not exactly a creature you would expect to see in The Vampire Diaries universe, but one has an appearance in Legacies Season 1, Episode 11, “We’re Gonna Need a Spotlight.” The magical creature was only around briefly, so not much is known about its abilities, the unicorn was killed instantly by the parasitic slugs that were sent by Malivore.

Werewolves were a huge part of The Vampire Diaries franchise because their bite is capable of killing a vampire. in the TVD universe, werewolves came from different bloodlines and had specific powers attributed to them. The evolved werewolves were created when two alphas of different bloodlines were married by a shaman and performed the unification ceremonyEssentially combining their powers.

Hayley and her husband Jackson were the first evolved werewolves featured in the TVD Saga. They were stronger, faster and more durable than regular werewolves. Hayley and Klaus’ daughter, Hope, gets her werewolf powers from both of her parents.

Cade’s power was so vast that he released a psychic blast that created another dimension while he was being burned at the stake. The dimension was hell, and he ruled over it, which essentially made him the devil. Psychics have telepathic powers, an ability to control minds and change memories in The Vampire Diaries.
