The titular protagonist of Ranma 1/2 The series is known for being a bold and thoughtless warrior who tends not to think before acting. Although well-intentioned, his bravado and massive ego have caused problems not only for him, but for those around him on numerous occasions. Episode 5 of the remake series is a perfect example, as her rivalry with Ryoga cost Akane her precious long hair.
Despite how devastating this occurrence may have been, it gave the series a perfect opportunity to develop the growing relationship between Ranma and Akane. This anime entry features one of the protagonist’s first true displays of emotion, revealing how much he cares about his fiancée.
Ranma’s brash attitude can’t hide his true feelings
His care and love for Akane is evident to the audience
In episode #5 of Ranma 1/2 In the remake, the protagonist is challenged to a battle by his former friend Ryoga. Ryoga’s deep hatred for his rival led him to give his all during battle, without caring who might get hurt. The reckless behavior displayed by both parties is over causing Akane’s hair to be cut off almost entirelyan accident that interrupted the match. Ryoga was extremely embarrassed by his behavior, claiming that he never intended for something like this to happen. Ranma, on the other hand, was more concerned about his fiancée’s well-being.
He spent the rest of the episode trying to apologize to Akane, making sure she was okay, and helping in any way he could. His behavior was unlike anything fans had seen from him throughout the series thus far. Ranma kept his bravado and mean comments to a minimum, preferring to show his fiancée a kinder, more understanding side. This was the first time since the engagement was announced that Genma’s son didn’t try to push Akane away with insults or offensive jokes.
Although he’s reluctant to admit it, the series has made it clear so far that he cares deeply about his future wife, wanting her to be as happy as possible. This was best exemplified in the final moments of episode 5 when Ranma stated that Akane looked better with short haira genuine compliment. Even though she went through a harrowing event to receive such kind words from him, Akane is now aware of how much she means to her fiancé.
The show proves that the Tendo family helped Ranma grow up
They are helping him break the toxic traits his father taught him
As a child, Ranma spent most of his time traveling the world with his father as his only company, as Genma wanted to learn as many techniques as possible to stay strong. The pair never stayed in the same place for long, preventing the young martial artists from making meaningful connections. Worst of all, his father was far from an ideal role model for such an impressionable mind, making Ranma believe that Showing emotions was a weakness he couldn’t allow.
Genma would also poison his mind by stating that his son should be a “man among men” and that any type of feminine behavior would make him weak. When Ranma arrived at the Tendo home, he had these horrible beliefs ingrained in his mind. However, being surrounded by caring and caring individuals like Kasumi, Soun, and even Akane helped him understand the error of his ways. Episode 5 is a prime example of Ranma leaving his father’s harmful teachings behind.
He accepted his mistake, tried to make amends, and gave Akane the compassion and support she needed at that moment. Although he often returns to his brash and self-centered ways during future entries in the series, he will continue to become a better person the more he spends on the Tendos. Ranma 1/2 is a series that is not afraid to show the flaws of its characters, as it understands that their mistakes make them human. As such, the cast members will continue to grow and learn from their experiences as this incredible and moving story continues.
Episode 5 is just the first in a long list of wholesome, iconic moments that new fans of this beloved franchise will experience. Ranma 1/2 has yet to introduce many of its captivating cast members, which will help the protagonist and Akane grow as individuals. This is just one of the incredible features that have helped the franchise stay relevant and loved by fans for many decades.
