The next Sherlock Holmes show has a chance to do a much better version of Sherlock season 4’s infamous Eurus story

Sherlock Holmes is returning to the small screen with a new iteration of the detective in Sherlock and daughter
where the series has the perfect opportunity to correct SherlockEurus’ infamous story from Season 4. The new Sherlock Holmes adaptation confirmed on The CW will add a twist to the Holmes Chronicles by introducing Amelia (Blu Hunt), who believes the detective could be her long-lost father. Interestingly, the huge deviation from the Arthur Conan Doyle canon could be just what the franchise needs to revive interest after a growing list of problems finally killed the BBC show. Sherlock.

The BBC series concluded the detective’s story in 2017, but SherlockThe final season of was poorly received by audiences, leaving many fans relieved that the BBC Sherlock may never be revived. Many of the season’s shortcomings were a consequence of the addition of Eurus (Sian Brooke), whose introduction was considered far-fetched. Combined with the fabrication of Moriarty’s long-awaited return, season 4 highlights several plot holes throughout the series with Sherlock and Eurus’ relationship. THE Sherlock and daughter the story already seems to promise an improved version, and the shift in dynamic to Sherlock adopting a parental role could be central for your success.

Sherlock and daughter have a promising family aspect for Sherlock Holmes

A new dynamic is refreshing in the endless Sherlock Holmes adaptations

Turning Sherlock Holmes into a father figure may seem like a radical step, but introducing such a bold new dynamic is exactly what’s needed to make the character compelling. Throughout the franchise’s history, Sherlock Holmes it had some essential ingredients. In addition to the brilliant detective himself, these include a host of beloved supporting characters such as John Watson, Mycroft Holmes, Lestrade and Mrs. Introducing a daughter into the story is certainly a starting point, but it also continues a long-established dynamic.

It’s because the introduction of a new family member is both an original take and a play on the tried-and-true formula that Sherlock and daughter may well succeed. On the one hand, seeing Sherlock interact with a new character is exciting for fans who want something new. On the other hand, a daughter promises a mentor role similar to the one Sherlock has had with many iterations of Watson – albeit with a familial twist. As a result, innovation has the potential to strike exactly the right balance to appeal to audiences in.

Sherlock’s Sibling Relationships Missed the Mark in BBC’s Sherlock and Enola Holmes

Sibling relationships were largely underused in BBC’s Sherlock and Enola Holmes

Sherlock Holmes having a sister, as seen in Sherlock season 4 is an extension of the original Conan Doyle novels, in which Sherlock has a brother – Mycroft Holmes. However, multiple iterations of the detective tackle the concept of Holmes having a sister. The most famous examples are, without a doubt, the BBC series, Sherlock, as well as the Netflix film series, Enola Holmes. However, while both productions address the potential that additional family relationships can have, these adaptations also ignore many of the premise’s biggest strengths.

The BBC series was criticized for its inclusion of Eurus and its handling of Mycroft’s involvement in her return. The character seemed increasingly implausible, especially given her complete absence from the story up to that point. Additionally, a three-episode format meant introduction of Eurus during the last phases of Sherlockthe final series didn’t give her enough space to explore her relationship with the Holmes brothers. The result was an ineffective plot that failed to significantly advance Holmes’ character growth and provide a satisfying narrative payoff.

On the other hand, Enola Holmes it was much better received by the target audience and praised for the inventive connection to the story’s source material. Yet, Enola Holmes was considered a disappointing Sherlock film because the detective himself was just a peripheral actor. The performance is based on what Henry Cavill explains as “a hidden warmth to this character,” which significantly opposes Holmes’s perception that the audience is familiar withand it means that the relationship between the brothers did not seem genuine.
