Will the Violence Creed be created? Daniel Craig Movie Status Explained

The 2010 novel Boston Teran, The Creed of Violence There was supposed to be a film adaptation starring Daniel Craig, but as of the 2019 announcement, there has been no news about the project. While development hell is simply a facet of Hollywood, it doesn’t get any easier when a highly anticipated film gets bogged down in the adjacent La Brea tar pits near Hollywood. The Creed of Violence is an action romance set in Mexico in 1910, on the eve of the Mexican Revolution. On the Mexican-American border, an assassin, Rawbone, is on a mission.

There was immediate interest in an adaptation of the book, and In 2011, it was announced that Todd Field had been hired to write and direct (through Empire). Since then, the adaptation has undergone numerous revisions. Leonardo DiCaprio and Christian Bale were attached at one point, and the film almost began production in 2013. In 2019, James Bond star Daniel Craig was cast as Rawbone, and it looked like the movie was ready (via Collider). However, since that announcement, there has been almost no news about The Creed of Violence.

Almost no news, it can be assumed that The Creed of Violence has been archived indefinitely. There are a few likely reasons why the adaptation was canceled. For one, Craig had a very busy schedule after 2019. He had There’s no time to die comes out in 2021 and Glass Onion premieres in 2022, both franchise films he likely agreed to do many years earlier. The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes that followed cannot be underestimated and likely diminished motivation for the project.

Todd Field isn’t exactly a prolific director either. He only directed three films in his life and 16 years passed between the release of his last film, Tarand what came before, Little children. In a profile for New York Timesthe article suggests The Creed of Violence has been permanently archived. Field says nothing about the film, but rather the fact that the profile of his work in the celebrated Tar does not provide information about The Creed of Violence is saying.

Clearly, Field isn’t interested in making movies as quickly as possible. He is in no rush and only drives when he is sure it is what he wants to do. It is not the first time that one of his projects has been shelved, and his adaptations planned for Blood Meridian, Beautiful Ruinsand Purity everyone fell. He also had other unnamed projects that never made it off the runway, including a biopic about the American soldier Bowe Bergdahl who abandoned his company and a political thriller with co-writer Joan Didion called How it happens.

In an industry where the objective seems to be to produce as much as possible, Todd Field presents himself with productions such as The Creed of Violence that he is willing to be his own man in the industry, valuing quality over quantity.
