Baldur’s Gate 3 Party member Wyll has been suffering from one behavioral bug that’s been sticking around for a while now, but it turns out that the fix is actually incredibly simple. For the most part, Wyll is one of the nicest origin characters in the game, with a consistent responsibility to do good that not everyone happens to share. He’s still capable of being rude, though, and a bug that affected the way he greeted the player character made him seem especially standoffish.
As discovered by Tumblr user autism and shared by Bong Communism on reddit, The whole problem with Wyll’s negative greeting stems from one line of code. The trigger for Wyll to start chatting with “You have something to say?“, which is only supposed to happen with a negative approval rating, missing a “= false“, making him say it in every scenario.
For PC users who don’t like mods, There is already an option to address this problem. Nexus mods user Leslinopes Uploaded a fix, which should basically flip the switch to let Wyll start chats based on his actual approval rating and not a default negative.
Wyll was broken for a long time
This is not the first issue with Wyll’s greetings
The problem with Wyll emerged with the release of Patch 7, which came out a month ago on PC. The update targeted an issue with Wyll’s low-approval greetings not triggering, so him being locked into one mode of nature isn’t new, but it clearly swung the pendulum in the opposite direction by mistake.

in theory, Correcting the state of affairs should be a simple fixBut if Larian Studios is aware of the bug, the developer may not consider it a high enough priority to target in a hotfix. At the moment, one can simply imagine that he does not mean it angrily or that the general difficult situation comes to him regardless of the approval, but it is a shame that he feels so cold even with high approval.
Our Take: Will Larian fix Wyll?
There is more work to do
Although it has only been radio silence from Larian so far, It is likely that an official fix will come at some point in the future. Baldur’s Gate 3 hasn’t been done with updates yet, and patch 7 came with the promise of an eventual photo mode and crossplay. It is hard to imagine that a problem this simple would not be tossed in the list of changes with another major patch, although it may be a long time.

I’m not so sure there will be a quick deployment of a fix for the Wyll issue, as it may not be considered as urgent as most of the hotfix targets are. Wyll has long had a reputation as one of the most overlooked companions, and this situation hasn’t created the same level of uproar as a Shadowheart or Astrion bug. Hopefully, though, Larian will be fit to address the issue with Wyll soon, especially now that it’s been so cleanly identified.
