Who is null in echoes of wisdom?

Despite being a pretty major character in The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of WisdomZero’s identity remains something of a mystery. Probably took place on the Zelda timeline sometime beforeOre Skyward Sword, Echoes of wisdom tells a story that, in many ways, subverts typical series tropes. This time, it’s Link who’s in trouble, and Zelda who has to save him with the help of the mysterious, otherworldly being Tree, and a staff that allows her to clone objects all over the world.

In another subversion of the typical Seldom formula, Echoes of wisdom Has no Ganon or Vaati, but has a unique villain: the mysterious Null. While much of Null’s background is explained in-game, it’s easy to miss the deeper implications of his lore. But with ties to other, more arcane parts of the Seldom Cannon, Null is worth a deeper look.

Echoes of Wisdom’s final boss is null

Null’s role in the end

Fighting Zero in Zelda echoes of wisdom

first and foremost, Null serves as the ultimate boss of Zelda: Resonance of Wisdom. Once Zelda rescues Link, the two learn about Null’s existence, and discover that it is the true source of all the rifts opening up around Hyrule. It deliberately acted in separating Zelda and Link, as it knew that the two heroes together would pose the greatest threat to its ongoing plan. Of course, it grossly underestimated Zelda’s strength, which showed.

Zelda and Link first face Null together, using the Tree Rod’s power and the Lord Sword’s power to tear off his arms. Eventually, Zelda must face Null on her own, using all the echoes and powers she’s gained throughout the game to pursue it through rough waters. Eventually, the two heroes reunite, and fight through hordes of monsters before finally defeating Null himself and collecting the final piece of the Triforce from it. Zelda and Link then reforge the Triforce, sealing Null away.

Which is still a bittersweet ending: Everyone returns from the peaks in Hyrule, and Zelda is celebrated for her bravery. She is distraught at having to part with her ally Tree, however

Is Nal really dead in Echoes of Wisdom?

Null & Demise Share Similarities

Many have pointed out some similarities between zero and another forgotten Seldom Villain: Demis, the final boss and main antagonist of Skyward sword. The similarities are pretty clear: both Null and Demise are primordial beings that predate the existence of the world as it is in their respective games. Zero predates the very creation of the universe, while Demis is said to exist in time.

Per Echoes of wisdom, When the three golden goddesses Nayru, Din and Pharore created the world, they had to seal it away. So it would not consume their creation. At the end of the game, Zelda and Link restore the seal, using the Tree Wheel and another familiar item – the Triforce, called the Prime Energy in Echoes of wisdom.

In much the same manner, Demis staged an uprising against the goddess Hylia, successor to Nayru, Dean and Pharore. (The Golden Goddesses are often said to exist in multiple worlds, thus once creating the one seen in SeldomThey probably left to do the same elsewhere.) He can only be sealed with the power of the Triforce, a gift from the Golden Goddess to Hylia. Recall that Link and Zelda also use the Triforce to seal Demis at the end of Echo and wisdomAnd it all starts to make sense.

Demis looks vastly different from Null, but there is precedent for this in lore. Ganon himself is heavily implied, by the end of Skyward swordTo be a manifestation of demi’s wrath. So if Demis could change his form over the years to become Ganon, it’s not too much of a stretch to imagine Null could have done the same before becoming demigod.

again, Echoes of wisdom Establishes that Null predates the known universe, so what has it been doing by itself all this time? As it turns out, nothing – That’s the whole point. Zero prefers to do nothing but sleep in a state of absolute nothingness. It only became a threat when something appeared in the void with him, spreading light and noise, and disturbing his sleep.

So the Golden Goddesses created the world as a prison for Nal. But over time, the walls of the prison weakened, with zero opening rifts just like it was during Echoes of wisdom. In order to keep their creation stable, the Goddesses created the TreeWhose role in the world would be to seal the rifts, zero opened.

Eventually, Nal became aware of certain aspects of his imprisonment, and learned of the Triforce in Hylia’s possession. It also revealed that two heroes – Link and Zelda – would one day rise to fight against him. So it enacts a plan, stealing the first piece of the Triforce to gain some of Hylia’s power and send Link into the rift. And just like that The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom Begins: With the first stages of Nal’s plot.
