Dragon Ball lore changes forever with the subtle Daima line that has major implications for the series’ title artifacts

Warning: Spoilers for Dragon Ball Daima, episode #4

Dragon Ball Daima made a surprising revelation about the Demon Realm’s Dragon Balls, and it could be impacting the series’ lore going forward. It all comes down to one line from Glorio suggesting that the Demon Realm dragon balls are first.

In Daima episode #4, Goku asks Glorio about the Demon Realm’s dragon balls, remembering that Piccolo mentioned them. Glorio responds by saying, “You could say that the Dragon Balls from the Demon Realm are the originals.” Glorio then describes the process of obtaining them by fighting the Tamagami, powerful guardians that protect each Dragon Ball. Goku is distracted by the idea of challenging these guardians, always looking for a good fight even in his current tiny body. The story moves quickly, but this is actually a very important story that should not be ignored.

The Dragon Balls of the Demon Realm are the Originals

The first set of Dragon Balls could offer insight into their existence

If Glorio is correct and the Demon Realm dragon balls are the first to be created, Daima could be gearing up to finally explain the existence of the Dragon Balls and why they were created in the first place. It’s interesting to note that despite being around the longest, apparently no one has ever managed to make a wish on the Demon Realm’s dragon balls, as the Tamagami are simply that strong. But then, why create the Dragon Balls if no one intends to use them?

It certainly makes some sense that the Dragon Balls from the Demon Realm are the originals. If the Namekians were originally from the Demon Realm before heading off into space and settling in various universes, then the Demon Realm dragon balls would logically be the first ones they created. This would presumably rule out the Super Dragon Balls seen in Dragon Ball Superas these were created by the Dragon God Zalamanot the Namekians, and it is said that the Namekians created their own dragon balls using the pieces torn off from the super dragon balls.

The Demon Realm dragon balls being the original set may also explain why there are only three of them, rather than the set of seven that seems to be standard for most varieties of dragon balls out there. The idea of creating seven dragon balls simply didn’t exist yet, and Neva, as their creator, made as many dragon balls as she could with the material she had. Given that the Super Dragon Balls were spread throughout Universes 6 and 7, it would be nearly impossible for any mortal, even a Namekian, to know how many actually existed.

The reason for the existence of the Dragon Balls can finally be explained

Learning the “why” of Dragon Balls

Seven Dragon Balls in Dragon Ball

If Neva is the creator of the Demon Realm’s dragon balls, and these are the original ones, then Neva could very well be the one who came up with the idea of creating dragon balls in the first place. The reason the Dragon Balls exist has never been addressed in the franchise; they just do. There must, however, be a reason why Namekians have a tendency to create a set of dragon balls wherever they go, and if Neva originally created the idea of dragon balls, he would be the only one to know what that reason is. .

Neva certainly doesn’t appear to be a typical Namekian in her behavior, acting a bit more selfishly than people like Guru or Kami. He seems to enjoy the fact that no one has successfully challenged the Tamagami, praising one of them when he goes to meet King Gomah. To have existed since before the other Namekians left the Demon Realm, Neva must be incredibly old, even for a Namekian, and judging by Gomah’s bribe to prolong her life, Neva still wishes to continue living. If your existence is tied to the Dragon Balls like Kami or Dende, that could very well be the reason.

Depending on the nature of the explanation, learning the true origins and reasons for the Dragon Balls’ existence could be a huge turning point for the franchise. It can be anything from encouraging strength to acting as an emergency tool to be used in difficult situations. Neva’s deceitful ways suggest the reason is probably not something simple. It could be as simple as creating a challenge for fun while watching the warriors fight to obtain the dragon balls in hopes of having their wish granted.

Are the Demon Realm Dragon Balls the most powerful?

Could the “Original” Dragon Balls be more powerful than those from Namek?

Shenron is summoned during Dargon Ball Super.

When Goku learned of the Namekian Dragon Balls, he discovered that they were more powerful than Earth’s, allowing three wishes compared to Earth’s (at the time). Although Earth’s Dragon Balls were upgraded by Dende, there is an implication that the first Dragon Balls to be created are the most powerful. There’s an interesting line in the first episode of Dragon Ball Daimawhere Gomah and Degesu discuss what wish they could make on Earth’s Dragon Balls. They decide they can’t make a dark wish, like killing Goku and friends, because Earth’s dragon balls are made with “white” energy.

The implication seems to be that the Dragon Balls of the Demon Realm have no such restrictions on wishing harm on others, something that would be in keeping with Neva’s personality.. This would also make the Demon Realm’s dragon balls technically more powerful than those of Earth or Namekians, but in a way that Goku and his friends probably wouldn’t use.

The mysteries surrounding the Dragon Balls have been present since the earliest days of Dragon balland it’s exciting to think that fans may finally know how and why these miraculous items came to be. Dragon Ball Daima could be opening up a completely new area of Dragon ball tradition, and fans will no doubt be eager to finally learn its secrets.
