When watching some of Nic Cage’s stuff, what surprised me was that movie he made, Pig. This is one of the best of the last five years. This is one of the best films I’ve seen in the last five years. He deserves to be proud of that… that guy who directed it did a killer job. He did a very, very good job. One of the things that’s great about this, especially after watching all the “revenge-o-matics” we’ve seen, the movie sets up like every revenge Nic Cage seems to have taken in the last five years. …this is configured like this only to decidedly not follow this path in the most creative way possible.
What Quentin Tarantino Praise for the Pig Means for the Film
Why it’s great

Quentin Tarantino is far from the only person who praised Pork since, at the time of its launch in 2021, Pork Reviews praised the film for breaking free from convention and offering a profound journey of love and loss, elevated by Nicolas Cage’s deeply moving and unguarded performance.
On his podcast, Tarantino addressed Pork in the context of Cage’s distinctly unpredictable career, going from winning an Oscar for his performance in 1995 Leaving Las Vegas and starring in mainstream action films to starring in many direct-to-video releases later in his career. PorkOne of Cage’s best performances in recent years, it was credited with reviving his career. Tarantino highlights how the film sets up a classic revenge plotonly to subvert expectations by taking a more original and sincere direction.
Our opinion on Quentin Tarantino praising the pig
He’s right on several fronts
Quentin Tarantino is absolutely right about Pork being one of Nicolas Cage’s best performances in years. Cage delivers a haunting, layered portrait that captures both vulnerability and quiet strength, making his character’s journey resonate deeply. Tarantino’s observation about Pork subverting expectations is also accurate, as it deftly challenges the classic revenge story formula, opting instead for a poignant exploration of love, loss, and forgiveness. Cage’s performance and this unexpected direction is what makes Pork stands out, solidifying its place among the actor’s best works.
