Chase became the “new House” at the end of Season 8, but his fate had been foreshadowed five years earlier in Homeseason 3 finale. Given that House faked his death in “Everybody Dies,” the Princeton-Plainsboro Diagnostic Medicine department needed a new head. The fact that Chase got the job wasn’t a surpriseeven more so because Home had been teasing for years that he would become Gregory House’s successor.
Throughout all eight seasons of Home, the show often raised the question of which of House’s students was most like Hugh Laurie’s character. House was the sun around which all the other characters orbited, but some were more like him than others. Although House had many companions throughout the show, he and the audience had a special relationship with the main team – Foreman, Cameron and Chase. As such, House’s eventual successor would likely be one of these three.
Chase was fired by House in Season 3 (and eventually became the new House)
House Firing Chase was strangely a compliment
As strange as it may seem, House firing Chase at the end of Season 3 foreshadowed that Jesse Spencer’s character would eventually become the “new House.” House’s decision to fire Chase was a surprise, even though Chase had yelled at House earlier in the episode. Despite having problems with each other from time to time, House and Chase generally worked well together and seemed like the perfect duo. From the original team, Chase had been working for House the longest, but he was the only one to be fired.
House was trying to keep Foreman from quitting, which made Chase’s firing even more surprising. Instead of keeping Foreman, House was apparently making things worse by firing Chase out of the blue. However, looking back, House’s decision made a lot of sense and was a strange sign of respect for Chase. House was tired and realized it was time for a change. There was nothing else Chase could learn from House.nor was there anything that House hadn’t already discovered about Chase. After Chase left the team, they were now equals.
There was no better choice than Chase to become House’s replacement
Chase was House’s natural successor on the show
Although Chase didn’t work on diagnostics for a while after leaving the House team, he was always one of the show’s brightest minds. Foreman and Cameron were great doctors who often pushed House out of his comfort zone, but Chase was very creative when it came to diagnoses. Many of his ideas were outside the box and could have seemed absurd, much like most of House’s own diagnoses. Chase wasn’t afraid of making mistakes and that’s why he was the perfect replacement for House.
It’s quite ironic that the only character from the original team to be fired by House is the one who replaced him in the end.
Foreman shared many characteristics with House, but he didn’t see that as a good thing. In fact, Foreman left the team the first time because he didn’t want to become the “new House”. Chase had the experience of working with House for years and the skills to lead the diagnostics department.especially considering he worked with House for a few more years before taking over. It’s quite ironic that the only character from the original team to be fired by House is the one who replaced him in the end.
Chase becoming the new home affected his relationship with Cameron
Cameron and Chase’s marriage fell apart
Chase didn’t just become House’s replacement as head of the diagnostics department – he began to become like House in many ways over the course of the show. This is something that directly affected her relationship with Cameron and ended up causing them to split. Cameron and Chase’s failed marriage is one of the most complicated stories in Homeas they went from an unlikely but charming couple to a marriage that was doomed to fail. Cameron believed that Chase had become a lot like Houseespecially after he let a patient die.
Ironically, Home It had nothing to do with what happened to President Dibala in Season 6. Still, it’s hard to deny that House influenced Chase in many ways. Chase never rejected House’s influence and advice like Foreman or Cameron would, which is why he was the perfect “successor.” The character growth was one of the best things about Homeand it was very fitting that the show ended with Jesse Spencer’s character as the new Chief of Diagnostic Medicine.
