It will have been almost two years since yellow stone Part 1 ended when part 2 premiered in November 2024, and after the long break, there are some key details from previous episodes that fans should remember. Follows Paramount Network’s neo-Western drama TV show created by Taylor Sheridan and John Linson the Dutton family, owners of the famous Yellowstone Dutton Ranch in Montana. Throughout yellow stoneIn the five seasons, the characters went through many difficulties as they faced struggles from external forces and from within their own family.
The end of yellow stone season 5 part 1 teased what’s to come in part 2. Episode 8, “A Knife and No Coin”, ended with many cliffhangers that set up the main conflict in the series’ final season, including the Dutton family war that has been brewing for many years, finally coming to a head. Unfortunately, yellow stone Season 5 Part 2 will not feature a prominent cast member from the neo-Western drama, which undoubtedly changes the course of the show’s previously planned finale. But the series will move forward and hopefully deliver a satisfying conclusion to the Dutton family story.

Kevin Costner will not return as John Dutton III in Yellowstone Season 5, Part 2
Costner left the series after the end of Part 1
In a shocking turn of events, Paramount announced that Kevin Costner would be leaving yellow stone ahead of Season 5 Part 2 premiering in May 2023, just a few months after the Part 1 finale. Costner, who played John Dutton III, was the face of the Taylor Sheridan TV series from the beginning. When someone thought yellow stonethey usually imagined Costner’s face. However, “A Knife and No Coin” will serve as Costner’s final appearance on the series, as he is not set to reprise his role in any of the Part 2 episodes.
As a result, Costner won’t be around to give his character a satisfying ending. The hope is that Sheridan was able to craft John’s exit in a way that makes sense, suits his character, and gives the audience closure. Many theorize that Costner’s absence indicates that John dies in yellow stone Season 5, part 2. Any other explanation doesn’t seem to work with John’s story. If John dies, there are a multitude of paths for him to take, including murder, natural cause or accident. Fans will just have to tune in to yellow stone premiere of season 5, part 2 to find out John’s fate.

John became the governor of Montana in part 1
John was elected during the premiere
Although John is absent (probably dead) in yellow stone Season 5, Part 2, your story from Part 1 will likely be important for the series’ final set of episodes. John was elected governor of Montana during the season 5 premiere, a position he came to increasingly detest as the episodes progressed. Costner’s character worked first and foremost to protect Montana from wealthy corporations seeking to make the land a tourist destination. He promised to protect the land, despite his feelings about the work itself.
John’s status as governor of Montana also temporarily aligned him with Chief Thomas Rainwater due to his vow to protect the state, which included native lands. John’s actions were not well received by other political authorities. Consequently, after Jamie’s betrayal (more on that below) during the yellow stone season 5, part 1 finale, John’s position as governor of Montana (if he doesn’t die) may be short-lived.

Monica lost her and Kayce’s baby in a car accident
Monica was driving to the hospital
Kayce and Monica lost their unborn baby, and Monica almost died in yellow stone season 5, part 1. When Monica unexpectedly went into labor at night, she drove herself and Kayce’s son, Tate, to the hospital, while Kayce, who was away taking care of business, would meet her there. Unfortunately, the road Monica was driving on was very dark and her pain was very strong. Monica swerved in and out of the lane and hit a buffalo (as well as another truck coming in the opposite direction). The accident led to the miscarriage of Kayce and Monica’s son, who would be named John.

From them their son’s death devastated Monica and Kayce in yellow stone Season 5, part 1. However, the couple is strong, individually and together, and is capable of overcoming anything. Going to the premiere of yellow stone Season 5 Part 2 Monica and Kayce will return and hopefully be stronger than ever, especially since the show seemingly foreshadows the couple taking over the ranch.

John offered Monica and Kayce a house on the Yellowstone Ranch
Monica and Kayce are increasingly involved with their family
After the death of their unborn child, John tried to comfort Monica, who was clearly and understandably heartbroken over the loss, and their conversation surprisingly made Monica finally feel like part of the Dutton family. During the yellow stone season 5, part 1 finale, John also offered Monica and Kayce a house in East Camp on the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch.
Some believe Kayce and Monica will take over Yellowstone Dutton Ranch when that happens. yellow stone comes to an end.
Monica and Kayce’s part yellow stone Season 5 Episode 8 was probably one of the only emotional moments at the end of Part 1. They are moving forward as a family and getting closer to the life they always dreamed of. Kayce no longer has to choose between Monica and her family. As a result, some believe that Kayce and Monica will take over Yellowstone Dutton Ranch when the time comes. yellow stone comes to an end.

Jamie accused John during the Yellowstone Season 5 Finale, Part 1
Jamie has officially turned his back on his family
The biggest and most surprising moment that occurred during the yellow stone season 5 part 1 finale was Jamie, as Attorney General, introduced articles of impeachment against his own father. He claimed that the reason for impeachment was John’s abuse of his powers as governor of Montana for personal gain. Unfortunately for John, as many people in power did not approve of his methods, he is likely to be thrown out of office.
Jamie always felt like the black sheep of his family, partly because he was adopted. Beth always hated Jamie in yellow stoneand as a result, Jamie doesn’t like his sister very much. More, Jamie doesn’t have the best relationship with his father, to say the least. So, it was only a matter of time before Jamie turned his back on his family completely.
3
Sarah convinced Jamie to execute John and Beth
Jamie now agrees to kill his father and sister
Since Jamie turned his back on his family by accusing John during yellow stone Season 5, Episode 8, it wasn’t too difficult for Sarah to convince him to also want John and Beth dead. Sarah, who is involved in stock markets, has manipulated Jamie all season. She wants John (and Beth) to leave for personal reasons related to her work. Since Jamie was an easy pawn for her, Sarah latched onto him and convinced him to do her bidding, making Sarah a great yellow stone villain.
Many believe that Kevin Costner’s John will die in yellow stone Season 5, part 2, and given the events at the end of part 1, he could be murdered, thanks to Sarah’s influence. Based on episode 8, Jamie will agree to have Sarah hire someone to kill her father and sister. Since Beth is confirmed to appear in yellow stone Season 5, part 2, and John is not, perhaps Jamie and Sarah are successful in killing John, but not Beth.
2
Beth wants Jamie dead
The war between Beth and Jamie is in full force
As mentioned above, Beth has hated her brother for years. Ever since Jamie took her to an abortion clinic that made her infertile without her knowledge when she was a teenager, Beth has been determined to make Jamie’s life hell. Jamie took away Beth’s ability to have children, making her despise him. So when Jamie pulled the impeachment stunt during the yellow stone Season 5 Part 1 finale, Beth suggested to her father that they should take Jamie to the train station, aka kill him. The war between Beth and Jamie officially began in yellow stone Season 5, part 2.
Beth will be out for blood when Paramount launches yellow stone Season 5, Part 2. All of his feelings of resentment and hatred for his brother will boil over, resulting in an all-out war between the two brothers. Beth wants Jamie dead and Jamie wants Beth dead. Only time will tell which member of the Dutton family will emerge victorious at the end of Season 5.

Beth and Rip were about to adopt Carter
Carter had a reduced role in Yellowstone Season 5, Part 1
Beth and Rip can’t have children yellow stone, but when Carter came into their lives in season 4, Beth took him under her wing. Although Rip was hesitant to let Carter get close to his family, he later gave in to the idea and accepted the young teenager. It felt like Taylor Sheridan’s TV show was foreshadowing Beth and Rip adopting Carter. Instead, Carter barely had a role in Season 5, Part 1.
Finn Little is expected to reprise his role as Carter in part 2. However, Carter’s growth spurt has apparently changed his yellow stone season 5 storyline, which means it’s unclear whether the series will continue with its adoption arc. Perhaps the size of Carter’s role will expand in yellow stone Season 5, Part 2, and Beth and Rip will adopt him, but only time will tell what the neo-Western drama has in store for Carter.
