Orchis attacked during the third annual Hellfire Gala and threatened to kill one human for every mutant left on Earth. With no other choice, Charles Xavier took control of all mutants at the gala and forced them out through the island’s gates, which Orchis had hacked to send all mutants passing through into the glowing room. Professor Xavier took extra care to ensure that each of his students knew the red triangle protocol, out of fear that one day his ultra-powerful mind would be compromised. Not everything is lost

Comic panels: Prodigy knocks the Krakoan to the ground.

The X-Men era “From the Ashes” is about the mutants who enjoyed a life on Krakoa readjusting to their new or old lives in the world among humans. NYX specifically focuses on a group of mutants who decide to call New York City their home instead of joining an official X-Men group like Rogue or Cyclops. Mutants like Prodigy try to leave their X-Men days behindwhile Ms. Marvel is thriving in her new identity as X-Man, but as always, mutants are hunted. As Prodigy says, hiding among humans is just living in fear.

When David Alleyne returns to the role of Prodigy, everything comes back to him. He is attacked by the Stepford Cuckoos and remembers how they used to skip school and miss the lesson on the Red Triangle Protocol, so he is easily able to withstand the psychic attack. He then single-handedly defeats the Krakoan. As Prodigy says: “Mutant culture is not Krakoa. Mutant culture is the X-Men.“Even without their own land, they will always be X-Men.
