What Hemsworth and Momoa’s Casting Would Mean for Pirates of the Caribbean 6
The Next Movie May Not Feature Many Returning Characters
The cast will be an important part of the next Pirates of the Caribbean film, as it’s likely that relatively few familiar faces will return. The story of Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) and Elizabeth (Keira Knightley) appears to be over and, after 2017 Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales received negative reviews and became the second lowest-grossing entry in the franchisea new beginning may be on the way. That said, franchise producer Jerry Bruckheimer has expressed interest in bringing Depp back as Sparrow following the actor’s highly publicized legal troubles.
Hector Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush) dies in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead men tell no storiesmeaning Depp could be the only lead actor to return, aside from other minor members of the Black Pearl crew. Whether Depp returns or not, Pirates of the Caribbean 6 will need a big star as an anchoras it’s unclear how much Depp will appeal to audiences on his own. Actors like Hemsworth and Momoa are not averse to joining major blockbuster franchises and appear to be prime candidates to join the cast, and their star power could help the film succeed.
Our opinion on the cast of Pirates of the Caribbean 6
Is it time to get over Jack Sparrow?
Depp’s Sparrow Was Crucial to All of the Previous Pirates of the Caribbean movies, but the character showed his limits in Dead men tell no stories. Part of Sparrow’s appeal is that he doesn’t really change, but that also makes him a challenging character to build a story around, as the last two films have proven. The franchise is in a tricky spot, then, because moving forward without Sparrow could risk alienating that character’s fans, while moving forward with another Sparrow-centric story could end up feeling like a repeat of what we’ve seen before.
If the Pirates of the Caribbean franchising is about being successful and having any form of longevity, it seems inevitable that at some point he will have to move beyond Sparrowand the sixth film could be the ideal place to introduce new characters for audiences to root for. It remains to be seen whether Pirates of the Caribbean 6 will actually come to fruition, but getting the casting right will evidently be an important part of the puzzle.
