Marvel Star Wars the comics have confirmed that the Inquisitors, the Empire’s deadly sect of fallen Jedi and other Dark Force users, remain active – and dangerous – in the early post-franchise period.Return of the Jedi was. With the departure of the Emperor and Darth Vader, Star Wars has a power vacuum when it comes to Dark Side threats, and The Battle for Jakku has just presented the latest.

Luke prepares to face an Inquisitor in Insurgency Rising #3

In Star Wars tradition, the Inquisitors were a big part of the galaxy’s liberation from the Jedi after Order 66. They were most active in the period between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, also known as the era of “Reign of the Empire”. They hunted Jedi like Cal Kestis, Obi-Wan Kenobi and many, many more who they ended up killing, but the last time they were active in continuity before A New Hope was their defeat at the hands of Kanan Jarrus, Ezra Bridger, Ahsoka Tano, and Darth Maul on Malachor in Star Wars Rebels.

Whoever they are, the mysterious Inquisitor of Rise of Insurgency #3… could be a dangerous adversary for Luke Skywalker as he tries to rebuild the Jedi Order after Endor.

Now that Disney Star Wars continuity is expanding into the next era Return of the Jedi, The time has come for the Inquisitors to return – something Marvel has clearly recognized, as they begin to lay the groundwork for the coming years of Star Wars comics. Whoever they are, the mysterious Inquisitor of Rise of Insurgency #3 – presented only in silhouette, with his identity likely revealed in the following issue – could be a dangerous adversary for Luke Skywalker as he tries to rebuild the Jedi Order after Endor.

Identity Insurgency Rising’s mysterious inquisitor may have already been revealed (who could it be?)

Rise of Insurgency #4 – Available November 6, 2024 from Marvel Comics

Rise of the Insurgency #3 keeps this Inquisitor’s identity a mystery, but they wield the same style of lightsaber as other Inquisitors, meaning this could be a Reign of the Empire era Inquisitor rather than a new character. There is an Inquisitor known to be operating after Return of the Jedi in the New Republic era, and that’s Marrok. Marrok served Darth Vader in the Empire and Morgan Elsbeth during the New Republic. Being the only known active Inquisitor after the fall of the Empire, It’s highly possible that Marrok is the mysterious new Inquisitor.

During his appearance in Ahsoka, following his defeat, Marrok’s armor collapsed to the ground and exploded in a green mist. A similar green mist emanated from the Nightsister zombies, and given Morgan Elsbeth’s Nightsister origin, it’s possible that at some point Marrok was reanimated by his new master. The Battle of Jakku the comic series may be the best opportunity to see how Marrok first died, perhaps at the hands of Luke Skywalker, which could be quite a struggle in this new era for Star Wars.
