Resurrections Making Trinity Fan Theory Canon Addressed by Carrie-Anne Moss

The Matrix franchise star Carrie-Anne Moss spoke The Matrix Resurrections making a fan theory canon of Trinity and her level of contribution in the twist. In the fourth installment of the franchise, Neo (Keanu Reeves) is forced to relearn about his past as the One, reuniting with familiar faces like Trinity (Moss) in his quest to stop a new threat. Near the climax of the film The Matrix Resurrections retcons the concept of One, making Trinity also the One at the same time Neo is. This confirmed a popular fan theory that had been circulating long before the film was made.

Talking to Collider, Moss explained how she had no direct hand in the decision to make Trinity the One next to Neo in The Matrix Resurrections. However, the actress explained that it had nothing to do with a lack of interest in the theory, but rather the trust she wanted to place in director and co-writer Lana Wachowski, whose vision she wanted to follow. Check out what Moss had to say below:

No, I never really had any input, just because they have all that in mind. I’m really a conduit to bring something they created to life.

When you work with a filmmaker this is very clear, you live and breathe it. You just trust them. That’s number one. You trust them. So you become a vessel in a way, like it’s co-creation, of course, but anything like that, I just trusted her.

What Moss’ Statement Says About Trinity’s Role in The Matrix Resurrections

The only decision came entirely from the franchise’s co-creator

Moss’ trust in Wachowski to make a new installment in the sci-fi franchise that stayed true to the story helped introduce new ideassuch as Trinity also being the One, in the storyline. The Matrix Resurrections the ending even hinted that more of her powers would be introduced if future installments happen, as she and Neo are planning to rebuild the Matrix. The reveal was also made easier by the fact that it had previously been established that there were Ones before the protagonist, making another appearance fit into the larger canon.

As the decision was made by Wachowski, one of the two co-creators of the franchise, alongside her sister Lilly Wachowski, Trinity’s status as the One manages to fit adequately into the larger series’ canon. Although it is unprecedented, given the way in which The Matrix already addressed the phenomenon, it also helps to elevate the franchise, giving it different ways to interpret the figure of the savior. This could be done not just with Neo and Trinity now, but potentially with other characters beyond the duo, if the series continues into more films.

Our opinion on Trinity being that in the Matrix resurrections

It was the perfect way to bring Moss and Reeves back

By making Trinity part of the One prophecy, just like Neo, The Matrix Resurrections They managed to give her a more direct role in the story that helped define the film as different from the previous trilogy. By opening the door for more than one One to exist at the same time, the film helped usher in a different version of the franchise that could go in unique directions. If another film is made, it could continue to explore the concept in various ways that may even go beyond its two protagonists.
