A new one Pride and Prejudice Spinoff show is currently in development from Doctor Who Producer Bad Wolf. Written by author Jane Austen, Pride and Prejudice was released in 1813, following Elizabeth Bennet and her budding romance with Fitzwilliam Darcy. The iconic work of English literature has been adapted many times into movies and TV shows, including a 1995 film starring Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle, and a 2005 film starring Keira Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen.

Variety Now reveals that another one Pride and Prejudice Adaptation called The other Bennet sisters is on the way of the BBC. The series, which is based on Janice Hadlow’s novel of the same name, will follow Marry Bennet, Elizabeth’s sister and the often overlooked middle brother of the Bennet family. Check out the plot synopsis The other Bennet sisters below:

“Unlike her sister, Mary is not your typical period drama heroine. She is awkward, anxious, preachy, full of facts, a terrible singer…overlooked by her mother and seemingly destined for a blank dance card for the rest of her life. Life… until Mary takes matters into her own hands.

In “The Other Bennet Sisters” Mary finally gets to experience an epic love story of her own, as she travels from the safety and claustrophobia of her family home in Meryton to the glitz of Regency London and the pastoral charm of the Lake District as she seeks For independence, romance and acceptance.”

Bad Wolf is producing the 10-episode show, with Sarah Quintrell set to write all episodes. Kate Crowther, Becca Kinder and Jane Tranter serve as executive producers for Bad Wolf, while Rebecca Ferguson executive produces for the BBC. Quintrell also executive produces, along with Janice Hadlow. Dan McCulloch, Bad Wolf’s director of content, developed and will oversee the spinoff. No release date or casting information for the show has been announced yet. Quintrell released the following statement about the spinoff announcement, expressing her joy in bringing this new tale to life:

“I’m thrilled to tell the story of Mary – the other Bennett sister – exploring what it’s like to be older when you’re the odd one out. It’s a joy to adapt Janice Hadlow’s brilliant take on such a beloved classic with The Bad Wolf team, and to find our home at the BBC. I grew up (an awkward, anxious teen, getting everything wrong…) watching the BBC’s wonderful Austen adaptations. It’s the stuff of every writer’s dreams Do not wait to bring this beautiful story to the screen – not least, for all the Mary there.

The story of Elizabeth and Darcy has been given various modern spins, including in movies like Pride, Prejudice and Mistletoe (2018) and Unleashing Mr. Darcy (2016).

Austenland (2013) also puts a unique spin on the story, and it stars Keri Russell as a woman who is obsessed with Austen and her work and who participates in some Austen character role-playing. On the more extreme end, Austen’s tale also serves as the basis for Pride and Prejudice and Zombies (2016).
