While Nobara Kugisaki Let it be Jujutsu Kaisens hardest-working first-year student, that doesn’t mean she can’t enjoy a little rest and relaxation from time to time. Thanks to an incredible new cosplay performance, fans can now experience a side of Nobara rarely seen in the manga or anime – a down-to-earth version that is more interested in hanging out with her classmates Yuji and Megumi and taking a break from her struggles. Sorcerer responsibilities for one day only.
The impressive performance, which was posted to Reddit r/cosplay Page by the cosplay artist @deadhardangelDepicts Nobara in two separate settings. In the first image, Nobara is depicted wearing her jujutsu high matte black uniform, casually sipping a drink in a trendy Tokyo eatery, possibly in the Shinjuku, Shibuya or Roppongi districts. The second image shows Nobara in her uniform again, this time browsing through a record store, looking for her favorite vintage LP. In both images, @deadhardangel masterfully captures Nobara’s iconic red hair, classic bob haircut, and signature “don’t mess with me” stare.
Being a jujutsu sorcerer delayed Nobara’s dream of enjoying the big city life
Chasing curses meant that Nobara rarely had the time to enjoy her surroundings
The Nobara cosplay couldn’t have come at a better time. Not just are Jujutsu Kaisen Fans were shocked — and relieved — to see her return to the series in Chapter #267, but the cosplay also highlights an important aspect of Nobara’s character that was only briefly touched upon in the story. Despite her countryside upbringing, Nobara has always been a “city girl” at heart. This is why, as a child, she gravitated towards Fumi and especially Saori. Both of them, not originally from the village, represented the “outside world” that Nobara aspired to be a part of one day. Their influence “refined” Nobara, making her the most city-like child in the village.
After arriving in Tokyo as a newly enrolled student at Jujutsu High, Nobara made no secret of her joy when he finally lived in the big city. When she wasn’t busy eliminating curses or studying, Nobara eagerly seized every opportunity to explore and revel in her new surroundings. For example, in Chapter 4 of the manga, Nobara shares her enthusiasm for city life and her pleasure to finally be able to experience its pleasures, such as shopping, visiting cafes and simply discovering the wonders of the city.
Nobara likes doing what other teenage girls do
The problem is that, as a jujutsu sorcerer in general – and a disciple of Satoru Gojo in particular – Nobara rarely gets the chance to relax and enjoy all the big city has to offer. For example, her trip to Roppongi in Chapter 4, where she is thrilled to explore, quickly turns into a Gojo mission to banish a curse. @deadhardangel’s cosplay captures Nobara’s essence finally got a moment to relax and fully experience the vast entertainment landscape that Tokyo has to offer. There’s not much more a country girl with dreams of the big city could ask for.
Being a jujutsu sorcerer comes with immense pressure. A day in the life of a sorcerer can involve life-threatening situations, fatal confrontations and the constant responsibility of protecting humans. Initially, Gojo questioned whether Nobara, a countryside native, was equipped to handle the demands. However, she proved him wrong and became the heart and soul of the Yuji-Nobara-Megumi trio. To cope with the intensity of the job, Nobara found solace in exploring Tokyo’s pleasures and entertainment.
