Chase Stokes and Rudy Pankow discuss John B and Jiara’s friends’ fears for romance lovers in Outer Banks season 4

Weeks later External Banks Season 4, part 1 has been released, Netflix has renewed the series for a fifth and final batch of episodes. The adventure drama follows John B Routledge and his friends as they inadvertently get caught up in a dangerous treasure hunt. After discovering over a million dollars worth of gold in El Dorado in Season 3, the group uses the money to buy JJ’s land, rebuild Poguelandia, and open a bait shop.

However, the Pogues overspend on their new home and a series of unfortunate events leaves them unable to cover the property taxes. A new adventure begins when they accept Wes Genrette’s proposal to find Blackbeard’s legendary gold. External Banks Season 4, Part 2 will be released on November 7, and stars Chase Stokes and Rudy Pankow share that John B and JJ are dealing with their own internal struggles as the journey progresses.

Screen speech interviews Stokes and Pankow about John B’s hesitation about being a treasure hunter and how JJ’s impulsiveness affects his relationship with Kiara in External Banks season 4.

John B’s trauma begins to take a toll on him in Outer Banks Season 4

“He’s starting to question whether the idea of being a treasure hunter is really a title he wants to keep.”

All the Pogues seem annoyed by an open-air auction of the Maybank estate in Season 4 of Outer Banks

The first time, the Pogues were caught up in this adventure by accident. Now that they’re known as famous treasure hunters and are doing it with intent, how do you think that changes the way John B and the group approach things?

Chase Stokes: I think John B is the most hesitant of the group. I think he has some form of realization that their identity being treasure hunters is such a far-fetched idea, because every time they find something, it’s a version of luck and a bit of research. And luck can only take you so far. In the last adventure in search of treasures, there were many losses.

This level of loss is really starting to take a toll on him because there are only a few people left and all the people left in his life are very close to him. So he doesn’t want any more trauma. He doesn’t want any more hurt or pain. He’s starting to question whether the idea of being a treasure hunter is really a title he wants to keep.

JJ struggles to trust his romance with Kiara in Outer Banks season 4

‘JJ has been wanting to try and this is season four. Responsibility and JJ – can this work?’

JJ and Kiara in Outer Banks season 4, episode 3 (1)

One of my favorite things about JJ is his impulsiveness. He is very unpredictable. Does this influence your relationship with Kiara in Season 4?

Rudy Pankow: I’m glad you said that’s one of your favorite things about him. It makes things a little complicated for Kiara to trust what’s going to happen, and I think, also for JJ, to trust what’s going to happen.

JJ and Kiara started out as friends, but then started a relationship, and JJ trusted that. I think he might be able to do that, but I just don’t think he has the best model of what that actually looks like. JJ is wanting to try and this is the fourth season. Responsibility and JJ – can this work?

About Outer Banks Season 4

Created by Jonas Pate, Josh Pate and Shannon Burke

After last season’s 18-month flash-forward showing Wes Genrette’s proposal for the Pogues to find Blackbeard’s treasure, Season 4 takes us back in time to that moment. After finding gold at El Dorado, the Pogues return to OBX and commit to having a “normal” life. They have built themselves a new safe haven, officially dubbed “Poguelandia 2.0”, where they live together and run a successful bait, tackle and charter shop.

But after some financial setbacks, John B, Sarah, Kiara, JJ, Pope and Cleo accept Wes’ offer, drawn back into the “G” game for an all-new adventure. But before they know it, they are completely lost, with dangerous new enemies on their heels, racing toward the treasure. Meanwhile, their problems only grow and they are forced to question their past, present and future – who they really are, was it all worth it and how much are they willing to risk?
