SscreenRant interviewed Sharon Horgan and Dearbhla Walsh about the upcoming season 2. They teased what they’re excited for fans to see in the new episodes of Bad Sistersand shared what it was like to return together to reform their little family. Finally, Horgan and Walsh also discussed how the show was initially intended to be a limited series, revealing what helped them find a way to continue the story.
The continuation of the story seemed natural when they started thinking about the second season
“It seemed to have such a perfect ending, but a perfect ending is not true to the story of what happens to a woman who has been in a terrible, abusive relationship like that.”
Screen Rant: Season 1 felt somewhat self-contained, so what was the process of finding a way to continue the story in Season 2?
Sharon Horgan: It was great, actually, when I started thinking about it. Because we thought it was just a limited series, and it seemed like it had a perfect ending, but a perfect ending isn’t true to the story of what happens to a woman who’s been in a terrible, abusive relationship like that, and who killed the man she loved for years.
And the sisters, everything they went through in the first season, it felt like, “How do you tie this together? Let’s understand this and find out what really happens.” The consequences of this kind of abuse and the consequences, actually. And then obviously there’s a lot of history beyond that. But that’s what excited me, exploring all of this.
Dearbhla Walsh: It felt so natural when everyone was thrilled to come back and reunite as a family.
Newcomers to The Bad Sisters cast and crew were bullied into starting season two after the success of season one
“This is all news to us. In recent days, we discovered that they were bullied.”
Screen Rant: What was it like for you guys getting back on set?
Dearbhla Walsh: It’s like a family. Everyone loves each other. In fact, it’s better than a family, because your own family, you often want to kill – not kill, but they bother you. Whereas the girls, the actors, they’re all great friends, and between takes there’s a lot of energy and excitement and chat on set.
Sharon Horgan: And a lot of the crew came back for season two as well, so it was beautiful. And any of the newcomers, in the cast, in the crew, became part of the family too.
Dearbhla Walsh: They were incredibly intimidated at first, and then they were absorbed into the family when they realized they weren’t scary people.
Sharon Horgan: We had no idea. This is all new to us. We have discovered in recent days that they have been intimidated.
Sharon Horgan hopes fans are welcome and enjoy season two
“I think if you go back to a show you love, your expectations are high, which is stressful for me.”
Screen Rant: Is there anything you’re most excited for fans to see in season two?
Dear Bhla Walsh: How to survive.
Sharon Horgan: I’m really excited for them to see where we take the story and I’m excited for them to be surprised. I think if you’re coming back to a show that you love, your expectations are high, which is stressful for me, but I hope we brought enough surprises that aren’t all obvious, that are hidden and that feel like it’s the show, but it was also different.
Dearbhla Walsh: And that they can relate and connect with new elements of the characters. Even though there are things going on with some of the characteristics that may have happened to you directly, that well of experience and emotion is very relatable.
