Daryl Dixon’s entire 12-episode spin-off story happened because of a minor character from The Walking Dead who appeared in just a single episode

Warning: This article contains SPOILERS for The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon Season 2 Finale. The Walking Dead: Daryl DixonThe 12 episodes contained many important moments that completely changed France, but the entire story wouldn’t have happened if it weren’t for one secondary character. After arriving in France, Daryl’s life took many unexpected turns as, instead of returning straight home to America, he ended up staying in the country and building meaningful relationships. In addition to meeting Isabelle and Laurent, Daryl was also betrayed by the Union and faced Pouvoir, which gave him a huge reputation in the European country, while also influencing many of the survivors in France.

Additionally, Carol bravely traveled abroad in an attempt to rescue Daryl. Her arrival not only continued to shape post-apocalyptic France, but also changed the lives of people like Ash, who nearly died helping her. All of the spinoff’s wild events seem inevitable based on the initial conflict between Pouvoir and L’Union, but Daryl Dixon The season 2 finale reminded audiences of who really caused the show’s storyline. While Daryl and Carol certainly contributed to the tension between the spinoff’s antagonists, a single forgotten character is actually responsible for the entire 12-episode story.

Daryl Dixon and Codron realize that everything happened because of one person’s lie

The lie about Daryl killing Codron’s brother created the entire Daryl Dixon plot

A simple conversation between Codron and Daryl at the end of Season 2 made it clear how much pain could have been avoided if not for one character’s lie. In season 1, Daryl comes across two strangers, a young girl and her grandfather, who offer the protagonist food and ask to join Daryl on his trip to America. However, the trio is confronted by two soldiers, one of them demanding food before starting to get aggressive. This leads Daryl to help fight off the soldiers, resulting in the girl killing a Guerrier named Michel, who happens to be Codron’s brother.

Despite this being the only time the Frenchwoman appears, she is confronted by Codron off-camera and lies about the incident, claiming that it was Daryl who killed the soldier. Inadvertently, his lie sets the entire plot in motion, as Codron going after Daryl leads to the nuns’ deaths, Daryl helping Laurent, and all the conflict that follows. Fortunately, Codron Undead The redemption arc allows him to make peace with Daryl, and they finally talk about the incident from the premiere where Daryl tells Codron that he never killed his brother.

The bomb makes it clear that without this lie, Codron would not have tried to kill Daryl, which would have completely changed the events of the series. Therefore, The Frenchwoman’s lie is perhaps the most important moment in the entire spinoffdespite her not having been seen since the beginning of episode 1.

How The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon would have changed if the Frenchwoman had told the truth

Daryl may have never met Isabelle and continued his journey home without the distraction of Laurent and L’Union

If the Frenchwoman had told the truth, Codron would probably have killed her and that would have been huge for Daryl Dixonthe story. Codron would have had no reason to go after Daryl in this timeline, which means the nuns would have survived in the premiere, giving Daryl the clear conscience to move on without helping Laurent and Isabelle. Of course, there’s still the possibility that Daryl decided to help them out of the goodness of his heart, but with people waiting for him at home, the protagonist would be more inclined to head straight to the US.

While finding a way home would still be difficult, he wouldn’t have had the same personal problems with Codron or Pouvoir, meaning he could have done them a favor in exchange for a ride on their ship. Assuming Daryl managed to get out of France, the country would be completely different, as Genet wouldn’t have died and been able to solidify his hold on France. Furthermore, Daryl and Isabelle’s romance would never have happened, and Laurent would have been vulnerable to both L’Union and Pouvoir, giving the child a much darker future.

Codron may also never have found redemption if his story had been different, meaning he could still be a villain serving Genet. Ash probably would have remained completely alone for better or worse, and although many of his Daryl DixonWhile the main supporting characters may have survived, they would still live in fear of Pouvoir. As a result, The French woman telling the truth could have saved several characters, but she could also have condemned them to a worse fateproving how vital this moment was to the entire plot of the show.

In addition to having a monumental impact on the plot, the Frenchwoman’s lie also connects to another key moment in the story. Daryl Dixon 2nd season. Just like the lie in season 1, Carol’s deception at the beginning of season 2 also dictates the plot of the following episodes, signifying how big an impact these moments of dishonesty can have. Both lies had serious ramifications, which makes Laurent’s conversation with Carol incredibly meaningful. Not long after the characters’ first meeting, Laurent said to Carol: “It’s bad to lie, but I’m glad you lied“, which perfectly sums up the entire show.

Daryl and Carol’s involvement in France was crucial for many characters, but none of it would have happened if it weren’t for a few instances of dishonesty.

Without Carol’s lie, Laurent may not have survived season 2nor are some of the show’s other supporting characters. Likewise, without the Frenchwoman’s deception in season 1, things would not have turned out the same way, which could have had a negative impact on Laurent and his allies. Daryl and Carol’s involvement in France was crucial for many characters, but none of it would have happened if it weren’t for a few instances of dishonesty, proving Daryl Dixonthe story largely depends on these moments.
