Pokémon TCG is bringing back the iconic Moonbreon card, and it could be the most expensive card of 2025

THE Pokémon Trading Card Gameit’s new Prismatic Evolutions The set includes a new Umbreon card that hearkens back to one of the most expensive cards of the modern era. Today, The Pokémon Company revealed a first look at rare versions of the special illustration of the various Eevee-themed cards in the next Prismatic Evolutions set. The new set includes a new Umbreon ex card featuring artwork of the Dark-type Pokémon sitting in front of the full moon with its Stellar Tera crown shining in the moonlight.

The new card appears to specifically resemble a similar card released as part of the 2021 set Evolving skies, which featured a Gigantamax Umbreon scratching the moon across the sky. This card, dubbed the Moonbreon card, specifically became one of the most sought after cards in modern Pokémon history, with the card still sells for over $1,200 on sites like TCGPlayer and eBay. Some speculated that the rare special illustration cards in Prismatic Evolution would become big sellers on the secondary market, with the new Moonbreon being an early target for speculators.

Will Prismatic Evolutions’ new Moonbreon card sell for a lot of money?

The previous Moonbreon card still sells for over $1,000

The new Prismatic Evolutions set will focus on Eevee and its respective evolutions, with new Stellar Tera Pokémon ex cards with each Pokémon. The set will also contain over 30 new rare special illustration cards, which have quickly become the go-to chase cards for Pokémon card collectors. Prismatic Evolutions is a “special” Pokémon TCG set that will not have a standard booster release. Instead of, boosters will only be available in packaged products such as Elite Trainer Boxes and Special Collections Sets.

Due to this release schedule, this means collectors will have to pay more money for products with multiple boosters or look for cards on the secondary market. This also means that Prismatic Evolutions will be harder to find in stores because they cannot be purchased in typical booster boxes or booster packs with covers. This means that the main chase cards in the set will be priced higher on the secondary market, simply due to low supply.

Screen Rant’s take: Moonbreon will send speculation about Prismatic Evolutions over the edge

Speculators can snatch Prismatic Evolutions products from stores, making it difficult for players to locate them

Prismatic Evolution Cards

While it’s unclear whether Umbreon’s new ex-card will be a meta-relevant card, the new Moonbreon card will likely still be a popular collector’s item on the secondary market. On the one hand, Umbreon is one of Eevee’s most popular evolutions. Additionally, the use of a similar motif to the previous “Moonbreon” card will pique the interest of collectors and speculators alike.

Unfortunately, this could lead to a new glut of speculators snatching up any Prismatic Evolutions they can find in stores, making collection more difficult for real players of the game. However, a silver lining is that recent special sets like Scarlet and Violet -151 remained in print. We hope that Pokémon TCG will release multiple waves of Prismatic Evolutions to help meet demand.
