What Substance’s VOD Success Means for the Film
Explanation of how the film performed in theaters
The substance became available on home viewing platforms just in time for Halloween, and the spooky holiday is undoubtedly part of the reason the film found success on VOD. Made on a reported budget of $17.5 million, the film ended up grossing just over $43 million at the box officemeaning it almost certainly broke even during its theatrical run. The fact that it is now performing well on VOD will certainly further cement it as a horror success story.
The film’s VOD success also bodes well for Fargeat’s film career. The director has already directed Revenge in 2017, which was equally well received by critics with its shocking moments of blood and brutality, which also appear in The substanceis ending. It’s unclear what project Fargeat will work on next, but The substance it certainly suggests she has a brilliant career ahead of her.
