Judge carefully balanced the seemingly cheerful and supportive Hal with the deceitful and ruthless criminal he actually was, thus cementing him as an all-time great. Monk Villain.

As someone who never had a best friend and who struggled with loneliness, Monk became more focused on his supposed friendship with Hal than the case at hand. This prevented Monk from being as diligent and insightful as he would normally be, as Hal took advantage of Monk’s insecurities. It is impossible to outsmart the brilliant monk, however Hal instead distracts him with a relationship Monk always craved.
