The characteristics of it is that it is directly interchangeable in pairs
The first game round in It’s what’s inside Equally swaps people rather than mixing them in different bodies. For example, Maya and Nikki went into each other’s bodies. The swaps in the first round primarily affect Cyrus and Shelby’s relationship. Beatrice (pretending to be Forbes) lies about being Cyrus so that Cyrus, in Reuben’s body, can sow his oats without ruining his relationship. As such, he tries to hook up with Maya in Nikki’s body. The decision benefits both men since Cyrus was in love with Nikki for eight years, and Maya still harbors feelings for her old flame, Reuben.

On top of the Maya and Cyrus part of the storyline, the first round of body swaps brings attention to Shelby’s unhappiness with Cyrus. While he complained about dancing with her earlier in the movie, Reuben, in Cyrus’ body, is more than happy to dance with Shelby. This is the happiest she acts over it’s what’s inside. She is also more than willing to talk about her unhappiness and egg on Reuben when he makes out with her boyfriend. Although the audience already knew that she was not happy, this makes it more clear.

Although she communicates that he isn’t trying hard enough after the wig incident, he either doesn’t listen to her or doesn’t care. He only seems to pay attention when she is expressing her unhappiness to someone else, which makes it seem like he cares about his reputation more than her emotions.

Everyone gets mixed up in different bodies with no clear pattern
Although the second body swap does not reveal anything new to the audience about the characters, it furthers the difference between Shelby and Cyrus. Shelby tries to have a positive sexual interaction with Cyrus, but he turns around and accuses her of having feelings for Forbes. There is no indication throughout the movie that his accusation is correct. In fact, she only ever shows interest in Cyrus. Shelby only dances with Reuben when he is in Cyrus’ body. She also only indicates interest in Forbes when Cyrus is in his body. At multiple points, Shelby tries to connect emotionally and physically with her boyfriend.

Her motivation clarifies why she takes Dennis’ body back in round 1. While everyone else has made their secret desires come true, Beatrice accesses Dennis’ phone, transferring all his money into her offshore account. Her desire to punish others also explains why everyone ends up in the body they do. Besides Beatrice – who stole Nikki’s body – the two It’s What’s Inside characters who get the best results are Shelby and Maya. Shelby wasn’t at the party, so she wouldn’t have a grudge against the woman. Meanwhile, Maya did nothing at the party to anger Beatrice. She was not shown calling Beatrice crazy, making her jealous, or drunk. As such, Maya ending up in Brooke’s body makes sense. The character expresses her happiness in a new body, seeing it as reincarnation.
Finally, the characters are stuck in the bodies because Beatrice runs away with the suitcase and Dennis’ money at the end of It’s what’s inside.
Meanwhile, Beatrice punishes everyone at Reuben’s wedding. Nicky was in a relationship with Dennis while he cheated on Beatrice, making her a target. Therefore, Beatrice placed her in Reuben’s body, forcing her to deal with the marriage situation. Beatrice wanted revenge on her brother, leaving him in her body. Although they never directly state the reason she hates Forbes, it seems probable that she blames him for introducing her to Dennis and taking her to the party.
