Warning: Spoilers for My Hero Academia: You Are Next AheadMy Hero Academia: You are next Immediately attracted a lot of attention for his villain, who is identical to all his enemies. Dubbed “Dark Might” in the film, this doppelganger has a rather surprising origin story that needs a little explanation.
Dark Might is first introduced by watching All for One and All Might’s battle in Camino Ward during season 3, and unsurprisingly misconstruing All Might’s declaration of “Next, it’s your turn.” Even at this early stage, Dark Might already has All Might’s face and body, and seems to be completely obsessed with him. The movie fast-forwards to present-day season 7, where Deku and the rest of Class 1-A are busy chasing jailbreakers, until they encounter a man whose quirk seems absurdly powerful, with a mysterious girl as a hostage. Dark Might appears and defeats the villain with excessive force.
Dark Might is a member of a European crime family
The original identity of Dark Might has nothing to do with all power
Dark Might is eventually revealed to be, in truth, a man by the name of Voldo Gallini, the current head of the Gallini crime family, a mafia-style organization said to be the largest criminal group in Europe. Waldo Gallini didn’t always look like everyone else; Instead, he is shown to have used his Quirk, Alchemy, to change his face and body to resemble All Might’s, seemingly just because he’s such a big fan. In the absence of the symbol of peace, Dark Might decided he would move to Japan and become its new savior, but he really does not understand heroism.
Dark Might’s Quirk, Alchemy, allows him to transform basically anything into something else by using a catalyst, which in his case is almost always a golden coin. However, what makes Dark Might truly dangerous is the mysterious girl he “rescued,” who is actually his first prisoner. This girl, Anna Cervino, has a quirk that can enhance the abilities of anyone compatible with her, raising the power of their quirk to unimaginable levels. Using the power given by Anna, Dark Might is able to pull off all Might-esque feats, as well as transform the city into his personal floating fortress.

Dark Might takes his role as All Might’s successor very seriously, but his criminal background precludes him from being able to actually behave as All Might would, using excessive violence and attacking without concern for civilians. He comes up with the name Dark Might while talking to All Might over a video call, after realizing that he would not receive the real All Might’s blessing. Dark Mite continues to experiment on the civilians swept up in his fortress, hoping they will be compatible with Anna and become warriors on his side.
At the end of the film, Dark Might is affected by Anna’s power as it runs out of control, turning him into a monstrous figure that the heroes must defeat. After being defeated, the modifications he made to his face were undone, revealing his true appearance as Waldo Gallini. It is shown that Waldo even killed his own father, seizing control of the crime family and using them to aid in his goal of conquering Japan. Truly a despicable figure, Dark Might is no longer capable of posing a threat by the end of My Hero Academia: You are next.
