It may be at the worst possible time, but the most humorous incarnation of the Justice League Has finally gotten back together. After months of planning, Amanda Waller is finally going after the world’s meta-human population. Heroes all over are banding together to face the onslaught, including the beloved Justice League International.
in Absolute Power #1 By Mark Waid and Dan Mora, Amanda Waller whips the public into a frenzy. She seizes control of every media outlet and broadcasts AI-generated videos showing superheroes going wild and attacking innocent civilians. All over the world, people fear for their lives and respond by attacking any superhuman they encounter.
While Cyborg, Oracle and other tech-minded heroes track down the source of the videos, the heroes hit the streets to counter the story. In London, Martian Manhunter teams up with his old Justice League International teammates Buster Gold, Blue Beetle, Fire, Ice and Elongated Man.
Justice League International returns to face a worldwide disaster
There have been several versions of the Justice League, but few are looked back on as fondly as Justice League International. The team was the first incarnation of the team yetCrisis on Infinite Earths and the traditional members of the team for new or lesser-known characters. The JLI era is seen by many fans as one of the team’s boldest reinventions. While this incarnation was eventually replaced, The JLI has had several reunions over the years, including a brief revival of their title during the New 52. Unfortunately, it has been a few years since they were in the spotlight.
Of course, this technically isn’t a revival of the team. They are not addressed as ‘Justice League International’ in the panel they appear in, but rather, by their individual names. But it’s still nice to see the team together, even if it’s not the whole team. It’s also a strange sight to see them all together right now. Justice League International has generally been a more lighthearted and funnier take on the team, but there’s nothing funny about what’s going on in the DC Universe right now. But can this one panel hint at a possible future for the iconic Justice League team?
Justice League International possibly return?
Currently, the world does not have a Justice League. While Amanda Waller is dooming her to end superheroes for good, things are almost certain to end in the heroes’ favor. When things get back to normal, maybe it’s time for the JLI to get together. They still clearly fight effectively together and after a dark event like this, fans will need a bit of levity. What team is better suited to lighten the mood of the DC Universe than to permanently bring back the most comedic version of Justice League?
