I’m even more excited about Scarlet Witch’s return to the MCU following the release of new images from the upcoming Marvel Studios film. Wonder Man series. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is one of my favorite recent Marvel projects, so I was thrilled to learn that director Destin Daniel Cretton will be bringing more heroes to the MCU, including Simon Williams’ Wonder Man. Wonder Man is set to release under the Marvel Spotlight banner in December 2025, and I’m even more excited for the series following the reveal of new images.
The first filming of Wonder Man was released as part of a preview of Marvel Studios’ upcoming Disney+ projects in 2024 and 2025. This gave us our first look at Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Simon Williams, who was introduced as the villain-turned-superhero Wonder Man in the Marvel Comics in 1964 The Avengers #9. Wonder Man’s Marvel Comics history is rich and complex, and I’d love to see some of that faithfully adapted into the live-action MCUspecifically Simon Williams’ romantic connection to Wanda Maximoff’s Scarlet Witch.
Wonder Man is scheduled to premiere in December 2025
Although the first filming of Wonder Man didn’t showcase the titular character’s true superhuman powers, it’s brilliant to see Yahya Abdul-Mateen II finally in action as Simon Williams. I was also thrilled to see Ben Kingsley’s Trevor Slattery return to the MCU, as he became one of my instant favorite characters after his 2013 debut. Iron Man 3. Wonder Man is one of Marvel Comics’ most powerful and significant heroes, so I’m very excited to see him join the MCUand new filming for the series has only been backed by excitement.
It’s unclear how faithfully Marvel Studios will adapt Wonder Man’s origin story. In Marvel Comics, Simon Williams becomes Wonder Man after being enhanced by Baron Heinrich Zemo. He is sent to infiltrate the Avengers and lure them into a trap, but ends up saving them and joining the superhero team. Can’t wait to see Yahya Abdul-Mateen II’s Simon Williams receive his powers and become an actor in the next serieswhich promises to be a fast-paced and exciting debut for Wonder Man, one that could even connect him to other MCU heroes.
Wonder Man’s Marvel Comics love triangle with Scarlet Witch and Vision would be great for the MCU
Wonder Man could derail one of the MCU’s most important romances
Simon Williams’ MCU debut has me very excited for a number of reasons, one of which is that its iconic love triangle storyline with Scarlet Witch and Vision could finally be adapted into live action. Wanda Maximoff and Vision have had a close connection in the MCU since the latter’s debut in 2015. Avengers: Age of Ultronculminating in their invented life together in Westview in WandaVision. Their relationship has never been easy, and I think introducing Wonder Man into the mix would be the perfect next obstacle for the doomed lovers.
In Marvel Comics, Wonder Man’s love for Scarlet Witch caused him to refuse to help revive Vision, saw him appear to Wanda when she was in need after she resurrected him in an ionic form, and eventually saw him get involved. romantically with Wanda, but this relationship did not last long. I’m one of the many who want Elizabeth Olsen to return as Scarlet Witch. With Paul Bettany also set to return as White Vision in 2026 Vision series, I think it would be great for Simon Williams’ debut to add new complexity and depth to Wanda and Vision’s story..
Bringing Wonder Man, Scarlet Witch and Vision together forms a massive superhero team for the MCU
Wonder Man’s debut could hint at the West Coast Avengers
While I would love for Wonder Man to cross paths with Scarlet Witch and Vision to derail their relationship, I think it could also add credibility to speculation about the formation of a new MCU superhero team. In 1984, Wonder Man became a founding member of the West Coast Avengers, a team that officially recruited Scarlet Witch and Vision in 1988. West Coast Avengers (Vol. 2) #37. My suspicions about the West Coast Avengers’ MCU debut have grown stronger as the Multiverse Saga has developed, and the introduction of Wonder Man convinces me even more.
I think the MCU’s West Coast Avengers team could include West Coast heroes like Shang-Chi, Ant-Man and the Wasp, She-Hulk, and now Wonder Man. With the possibility of Scarlet Witch and White Vision joining them as well, this would establish an extremely powerful superhero team. that I would love to see come to life in the MCU. Wonder Man Not only could it introduce Simon Williams as one of the MCU’s most powerful new heroes, but I think the series could also debut this new team, changing the landscape of the MCU forever.
Launching on Disney+ as a limited series, Marvel Studios’ Wonder Man introduces the titular Avengers hero to the MCU. Starring Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as actor-turned-superhero Simon Williams, Wonder Man also features Ben Kingsley, who reprises his role from Iron Man 3, and Shang-Chi as eccentric dramatic actor Trevor Slattery.
